Livermore,Parker and hudd likely gone. Worries about Dembele fitness and chadli can fill in wing position so one more like McCarthy would make sense. Very talented player.

It will make sense IF we have the money. If we sign him then start fucking around over striking targets due to us haggling over a few million then it won't sit well with 99% of people here.

With McCarthy it depends who's off. If deals are in place for Livermore, Hudd and Parker then i'm all for it, as long as it has no effect on our pursuit of a striker or two.

Now why would we sign McCarthy

We currently have for CM in a 433
Dembele, Sandro, Paulinho, Holtby, Siggy and Chadli plays there for Belguim National team with Dembele and Fellaini fighting for one spot FFS

God knows? Maybe we are having a bit of a 'refining' in the midfield? Sort of clear out Livermore, Parker, Townsend, Dempsey, Huddlestone. Replace them with McCarthy, Chadli, and give more time to the likes of Carroll, Holtby etc?

Siggy and Chadli will be competing for the two wide forward berths alongside Bale, Lennon, Townsend and Dempsey or when we switch it in the Cups.

Primarily, the three central midfield berths will be between Sandro, Dembele, Paulinho, Holtby and Carroll - with McCarthy perhaps in tow then it alleviates the need for Livermore, Huddlestone and Parker.

Chadli won't play there IMO and we could sell Parker,Dempsey, Huddlestone and/or Livermore. McCarthy will only get better, would be a great signing.

McCarthy has the potential to be something a bit spesh in 3 or 4 yrs, imo. Not at all sure the £15m+ they'll want for him makes this a goer though. It's staggeringly overpriced actually. I mean, good God Almighty. Shall we get in a striker first please. Then buy all the McCarthy's you like.

Was just looking at other squads on wiki and looks like all the others clubs have around the same number of midfielders 8-10. If we have those 8-8 MF's that's enough quality and depth.

Surely we won't be going for McCarthy until we've sold 1 or 2 of Parker, hudd or Livermore or loaned out Carroll.

That's unless we are now collecting central midfielders like we used to collect right backs!

We need to see what the outgoings are first before flipping out over another midfielder.

AVB will also be desperate to play very strong sides in the Europa League as well. We need real strength in depth to avoid that campaign compromising league performance.

Chadli only played centrally for Belgium once. He is mainly considered a winger and I have no doubt that will be his position for us as well.

Not disagreeing with you but I'd expect to see Siggy get games both out wide and in as more of an AM at first. I very much hope he can adapt to the wide position because he'd score a hatful of goals for us he can. Lack of pace might make it tricky though.

We really need to shift 2 or 3 CMs before signings more though. Our wage bill will start to balloon horribly otherwise.
