Celebrating a football player's injury is like cheering a film actor's car crash solely for him acting villains on screen.

Er, no it's not. At all.

I don't think anyone should be 'celebrating' the injury but that comment is ridiculous. An actor's job is to act. Everything involved in it is acting, it's not real. Some footballers DO go on the pitch with the intention of injuring others, remember Roy Keane? I'm sure Robert De Niro wouldn't like it too much if he was actually shot by a fellow actor during the making of a movie....

Seriously, really bad comparison.

In my opinion, if you go out with the intention to injure, which Eboue clearly does, then he has to take whatever comes his way in return. Same for Lehman, remember when he ran over to Davids after Keane's goal and knocked him to the ground for no good reason? If Davids had got up and knocked the **** out, and broke his jaw in 48 different places whilst doing so, then we'd all have fucking loved it. Because we all know Lehman is a horrible ****.

Wherever there are "local derby" teams, there is always a more intense rivalry and, for me, from that stems an overpowering need to beat them, outplay and outclass them.

Despite this very basic tribal and territorial rivalry, there is no way that I could be glad that any player is badly injured.

Those photos are really sickening.

 Second that.

If you hate your rivals then learn to play the game and fuckin beat them on the pitch in a game of football. If you can't play with the ball, well you may even resort to an insulting chant that features elephant-washing, if you are primitive enough! But all these 'shame it's not ... (fill in the name of a player) ranges from immaturity to complete idiocy.

Footballers are entertainers (whether they are particularly good or bad in their trade is not important). They are performing in tribal colours for the sake our tribal allegiances and get paid to do it. Is it that hard to understand? The player is not the enemy.

Celebrating a football player's injury is like cheering a film actor's car crash solely for him acting villains on screen.

Exactly!

I don't hate Arsenal.

I think it's pretty twisted to hate someone that much, especially someone you don't know. But this thread just goes to show what it is to be human.

Last thing I want to say is what goes around comes around. Gloat now, but remember it when something shit happens to you or yours.

Some people don't deserve Spurs and don't understand glory or know what victory is. I put them in the same category as the worse of Arsenal, West Ham or wherever. They're no different from each other. That's all.

... Have to hate the Scum as much (or even more?) as you love Spurs?

I ask as a reaction to this thread;

http://www.spurscommunity.co.uk/forums/showthread.php?t=27722

Basically... some people are happy about Eduardo's injury.

Where I stand on it is simple. I'm happy he's out for the rest of the season. I wish it could happen to more Arsenal players. It's not immature of me, it's simply because I hate Arsenal almost as much as I love Spurs. Now the injury itself is horrible and I feel for Eduardo as a bloke. No one deserves that (maybe, just maybe Henry... And Bobby Pires... And... Ok, I'll stop).

It's an argument I have with two of my brothers and I always land in the middle. Basically, one of them says you MUST hate Arsenal as much as you love Spurs. The other says feelings to the Scum are irrelevant and as I mentioned, I lie in between.

So what do you think?

Gut reaction? Who cares? My gut is owned by SPURS.
As a human being? I hope he can play again...

Don't get me wrong, if Eduardo had got a fat lip or a hefty knock to the nads I'd have been the first to raise a chuckle. But this kind of injury is horrific & I wouldn't wish it on any player, Gooner or not. As Bomber said, it would be marginally less upsetting if it happened to a player who commits fouls like that every week but Eduardo seems like a fairly decent chap & a very good footballer as well.

As far as Gooner-hating goes...

I intensely dislike Arsene Wenger & several of their players (no need to go over the names again, they've been well covered here already) but most of their fans I've met in person have been very personable. Okay, as a Yorkshireman I have to deal with it less but I shared a house with a couple of Gooners for 2 years & they were (otherwise) sound. Gloated like fuck when they won but I'd be lying if I said I wouldn't do the same.

No, its all about Spurs for me. Obviously I have an abstract hatred of Arsenal - it goes with the territory but for me I'm definitely more pro-Spurs than anti-Gooner.

I think the answer comes back to where the feelings stem from.

As far as i'm aware people don't become Spurs supporters because they hate Arsenal, people support Spurs and then as a result of that develop a dislike for Arsenal.

QFT.

Honestly as someone else said most "hate" for Arsenal is a bit of a pantomime, it's far from as volatile as it was years back...it's almost borderline a friendly rivalry, if you overlook the "friendly" aspect. The derby is always special, and seeing them lose is usually fun (though when they lost 1-0 against Everton last season with the last kick of the game I couldn't see the positive side - Everton were our closest rivals and 3 points for them was just worse for us, plus that we were ourselves on the end of a lot of late, late goals and its always a bit shit), but I don't actively hate any of their players (though Eboue is quite the dirty bastard) or fans (though there are those that I consider really obnoxious and unpleasant, I could sadly say the same of a few (far less, of course) spurs supporters.

I don't think being a tosser is a requirement for a true spurs fan

I honestly feel that all this anti-Gooner shite is a complete load of bollocks....Arsenal have played some great attacking football in recent years....not the shite that Graham used to impose on football.
I have NEVER stood when the Spurs 'fans' have started the 'Stand up if you hate Arsenal' chant....It is so very childish.!

Seriously though people, are you watching MOTD? They've just shown the challenge. People who are saying the pictures are doctored or whatever, this guy has been seriously hurt - his foot is HANGING off his leg!

Who the hell do people think they are to say that he deserved it? Oh yes, he puts on an Arsenal shirt each week. Woopy doo. The guy is 24 years old and you think he deserves this?

Anyway, finally, for those who 'hate' all Arsenal fans..... I think that's too steep! Personally, some of my best friends are Arsenal fans, My boyfriend is an Arsenal fan! It makes for good banter but you can't seriously tell me tht you HATE someone just because they support a different team to you?!! About time people took a reality check. We LOVE Spurs - that's ALL that matters in this 'beautitul game'!!

I don't hate anyone at Arsenal as I think it's too strong a word to use when they have done nothing personal to me, apart from being the main rivals of my team (plus cheaty past).

I love Spurs and I don't overly like Arsenal, I love it more than any other team when we beat them but I certainly would never wish any injury on any of their players or any other human being as I feel that's kinda wrong.

I'm cross-reading threads at the mo but I wish Eduardo a full and healthy recovery and anyone who is gleeful about his or any other player's injury should be thoroughly ashamed of themselves really.

For goodness sake, football is just a game at the end of the day, so how can people claim to have so much hate for someone they have never even met in person??? Wenger pisses me right off, but again if I wished him harm and it actually happened I wouldn't be able to look at myself in the mirror.

Sorry if that last bit is a bit off topic for this thread but can't be arsed to post in the other thread.

People can call me a non-Spurs fan if they like but I prefer to view it as being someone who doesn't like to see another human being hurt or wasting time hating people who I don't even know.

Ooooh! Are you my girlfriend?

You're very wrong here, but can't really disagree with your general outlook.

The Eduardo injury was horrible and as a player who has had his share of bad injuries, I wouldn't wish that on anyone.

Apparently it was only his sock keeping his foot attached to the rest of his leg. A really horrible injury and anyone taking any joy from it needs to get a grip.

Had it been Adebayor though....

I'M JOKING! NOT EVEN HIM.

No way any Spurs supporter is going to hate the scum more than they love Spurs, it's Spurs first, last and forever.
