Advantages are they he and Verts know each other very well so establishing a partnership shouldn't be a problem. He's pretty dominant in the air.

Downsides, he's always looked a bit wooden and not the most mobile to me.

And that it may just be a little game playing to move forward the MM deal....

I guess any incomings are reliant on outgoings, so always going to be difficult to arrange at the same time!

Sounds like Dawson Mk2... It strike me that MM is a nice balance of ball player/defender. In the clips I've seen he seems to intercept and stop a lot of the front post crosses. Someone like TA looks more the Vidic type winning headers and making blocks.

If no deal happens for MM I'd be happy if we brought in Alerweireld. He's a reliable defender with history of playing in a similar system to our's, not to mention the fact he's already established a partnership with Verts.

Although TA is an OK player there is a reason he is cheaper than MM and that is because he is not as good.

He's fairly decent covering at RB too, right?

Wonder if he could be cover there until Walker gets back/Yedlin arrives and allowing Naughton to leave.

I don't think that he's quite the upgrade that we need. I don't think that he's quite good enough.

Hopefully as said above, this is designed to try to unblock the MM deal.

Could be something in it. He's cheaper than MM and if Athletico are sniffing around Soldado then it's possible that we may see a deal here.

Nowhere near the quality we need, I just think this is a made up story by the press because of the Verts link or by his agent because he wants a move as he unsurprisingly rarely gets any playing time at AM

Our itk's were critical of Toby when we were linked with him pre-signing for A Madrid. Lack of pace and an inability to stay tight to his man.

Would prefer to start Vlad and Kab ahead of him. A okay player but we should really be looking for a starter not a back up, and Toby is certainly a back up.

You got some statistical evidence to back that up?

Saw the name, thought "doesn't this guy have the turning circle of a small country?" came in thread and people confirmed it, thanks lads!

Perhaps would have taken him last summer if he could have established a lengthy and consistent partnership with Verts. Unfortunately he opted for AM which has not kept him sharp enough to be thrown into the PL

He is a very dominant force in the air is very good at making blocks, like Dawson is, however, as mentioned, he is not very quick at all and will not suit a high line of defence, so overall, no thanks...

I personally feel like he'd be a great option if we wanted to replace both Kaboul and Dawson by bringing in Alderweireld and Musacchio as they are what I would consider upgrades to bolster the RCB position. But, Musacchio should obviously be the priority if we are just brining in one.

Didn't like him when we were linked last year and definitely not a fan now that he couldn't cut it in La Liga.
