If we have a decent game against that line up, something is seriously wrong.

This is going to be fascinating. Not at all convinced by Sherwood but it'll be interesting to see what happens.

You forgot Defoe = VDV

Think VDV was injuried and ade and Defoe had a run at the start of that season. Even Harry dropped the 4 4 2 notion in favour of something less rigid with touch line wingers running up and down all day

Well until that infamous one off game he reverted back to it and we were beaten.
"I went back to 4 4 2 because people said we looked good"

Lol Jesus wept! Now I know how the avb out crowd felt when the team line up was released:p

That lineup would get spanked against a decent team. I'm just glad that West Ham's second string isn't a decent team so we should be ok.

What about Atletico Madrid?

The game is starting to move back to 4 4 2, Not the old 1 we all know but a more fluid version where the tactic ends up outnumbering the 3 in midfield with 4.
Good point. Alf Ramsey's 4-4-2 teams were nicknamed 'wingless wonders' because when he played a winger (just the one), he played them in a 4-4-3. But that was a long time ago, and yes, tactics evolve. It always puzzles me that the lkes of 442, 443 etc don't give you a clue about how the teams play in possession or out of possession, and imply some sort of symmetricality - basically they don't really say much at all.

We're certainly not set up to defend a 1-0 win!

Very attacking line up, with only Dembele in midfield who can push a player off the ball.

I have no idea how this is going to go!

Hell no. This lineup is extremely risky and either way it goes it'll be exciting as hell.
I don't think it's risky, compare it to the only season we qualified for CL. We played 442 with modric and huddlestone and crouch and Defoe. Pretty much all season

I think we've just gone for square peg square hole. A right winger on the right, a left winger on the left. With the players available I can't see much of a different formation. I think the reason why Soldado hasn't started could be because he's so used to playing up front on his own, Sherwood might think that Defoe and Ade might be a better choice seeing as they've played that formation.

I just want to see attacking football and players that show they want to play for the club, fans but more importantly for themselves

We will probably win, and win well against a 2nd string West Ham team, and that will be the problem, as we will do it against a decent team and it not working.
How many are Spammers 2nd string? I thought thats the best they could do.

This line up makes me very, very interested to see who and how we line up on Sunday. If we win will we start the same team...

I don't think this is any indicaiton at all when it comes to how we line up on Sunday. This is basically a mix of neglected players and the only fit defence + Lennon.
