I am not sure if this is the right section for this, but is anyone else getting the impression that us not budging in Townsend and saying out loud that he is not up for sale is just a guise so that when we exchange him as part of the Schneiderlin deal on Friday, it will save some face for the Southampton board and their fans won't be as upset as it will feel as of they have pulled of some kind of "Famtastic Deal"?

Could be, if Poch wants rid of Townsend then fair enough but I'm not really keen on the exchange. Southampton are just jerking us around and we might be left with nothing.

Business is business. We should not be doing business if sparing someone's blushes and saving their face is detrimental for said business to be concluded.

It's very difficult to know what Townsend is worth in a deal like this.

its classic supply & demand. I'm trusting Levy to play the game to the max! let's hope it works out for what we need. AT has potential but all the things I'm hearing (and seeing) about him not being able to understand the instructions from coach makes me think it's best we find a way to make this deal happen quick!

Dont think he should be sold, we still need a squad! If he is to go as part of any deal (though I dont thibk we need him now)), then a seasons loan at most.

I'm sure Levy will do what's right but Townsend is just such an odd player. He's been hyped up for England and for us but I don't think anyone knows how far he's capable of going. The last thing Levy will want to do is give a player away in a swap deal who then goes on to become top class.

We shouldn't do it.

we should. MS will be key to first team squad while townsend wouldn't. i would love to keep townsend but if giving him up is the key, i'll do it in a heartbeat. moreover lennon looks more comfortable on the left.

Selling Townsend is crazy.

Young, English, left footed winger who can dribble, cross and score goals.

Unless his injury has maimed him I think this will be a massive mistake.

We still don't know how good he's going to be...

I think it will be Bentaleb over Capoue. But both our centre mid starters have looked great so far, so I'm not entirely fussed about Schneiderlin.

Bentaleb may be a very good prospect but he should not be picked over Capoue ( imo).

Who can dribble, be greedy and hit row z you mean.
Personally I like him to stay, good impact sub against tired legs.
But itk (salt required here) is saying Andros can not do instructions.
I'm going with whatever Poch thinks.

schneiderlin and capoue will be such a bland pairing.
I have to agree, people were pointing to stats saying schneiderlin is a good passer but the same stats in the past 2 weeks say Capoue does the same thing

selling townsend would really piss me off. He made England look good in two seperate matches which is saying alot. Players who can dribble with pace and take the ball forward are so valuable and rare you should always avoid selling them. He's been really unlucky to get injured when he started to make a name for himself.

people on here really have a warped view of schneiderlin, the guy is a dm with a competent passing game, nothing more. he's being built up as though he can transition the ball like modric or something. why are we so scared of creative and dynamic central midfielders? everyone we buy in that area are all one of the same.

Im happy with our midfield options tbh, I just think need to trim fat. Bentaleb and Mason will do me fine and possibly the odd 15 mins in the cup games for Mr. Winks

Townsend has everything with the exception of a brain and foot to eye coordination. I'd sell him to sign Schneiderlin
