Women's football has come a long way in the last few years. I like it; it is certainly entertaining and there are some quality players in the women's game. :)

Not sure how many of you are interested, but all the games are being shown on British Eurosport and a selection (including all of England's) on BBC 3 / Red Button.

Italy v Finland (UK Kick-off 5.00pm)

http://www.tvguide.co.uk/detail.asp?id=3142672

About 10 minutes left of this game. It's been quite stale with Italy missing several chances especially with Finland's dodgy defending.

There's another game after this, that's on BBC3. Details to follow ...

Jesus this is tragic... Not even conference standard.

Not being horrible but it's never going to take off, the money will never be in the women's game.

How much do they get paid to play? Might stick two balloons up my shirt, slap on a wig and go pro if it's decent money

That goal wasn't even that good, it was just absolutely woeful defending. I'd fancy myself to bang a few in this game tbh

Might watch a couple of games just for the goalkeeping. It's usually embarrassingly bad.

Do you know what the problem with women's football is? Just watching this second half, the players aren't particularly bad, they're technique isn't too bad, it's just the decision making is awful. Making decisions which 14 year olds would be embarrassed by.

I am actually. Two penalties saved and hopefully a last minute winner to beat the turnips.

Aside from this ...

(yes, it is very funny)

.... how much women's football have you actually watched?

I've been watching the women's tournaments for nearly 10 years and the standard has improved dramatically, including the keeping.

Surely the 2 penalties saves in this game should emphasise my point. ;)

I respect your opinion and I can see how maybe you find it entertaining. But then again, a game of 12 year olds playing football can also be entertaining, doesn't mean it's good quality though. The quality of women's football is probably lower than semi-professional men's standard. And that really isn't an exaggeration, I know many semi pros and they're head and shoulder above any women I've seen. And you're right, I don't watch much women's football, only the international tournaments but if I'm not impressed by what should be the best in the world competing against each other then what hope is there?

I've been to a few professional women's football games and really enjoyed them. Sure, the standard is not as high as that of men's football but quite frankly there's no money in it, nor is there any real commercial interest in it either. When you consider that they don't have access to the same facilities and personnel that their male counterparts have it's no surprise that it's not at that standard. From a professional point of view women's football is still in its infancy and sadly I don't think it will ever reach anywhere near the level of the male professional game as people refuse to take it seriously or wish to invest in it.

There are some very talented female footballers out there who, given the right access to resources, could hold their own in men's professional teams. There is also the argument that many women might feel discouraged to get into playing football as there's no real career to be made in it, and therefore it may not be a true representation of the female species within this sport. I'm sure there are plenty of ladies out there who, if they could devote their time to playing professionaly without having to worry about the pathetic pay and lack of career support, would make women's football a much better game than it currently is.

Can't help but feel some of the comments on here are a bit harsh, you may as well re-name the thread "Let's all laugh at women's football". If you don't like women's football then why bother watching it or commenting on it in the first place? Unless you just feel the need to get cheap positive reps for all the hilarious comments you can make.
