With the competition starting to strengthen I don't think we'll finish in the top 4.

But what we can do is get back to playing some proper football, at least compete with the top sides and have a good run in the cups.

This is my feeling too. The top teams seem to be going up a notch with their signings or supposed signings whilst only time will tell if we do the same.

I'll be looking forward to hopefully no more 5/6-0 thrashings and embarrassing performances but other than addressing the obvious positions (LB, LW etc.) I really think we need a VDV type signing or at least just a playmaker if we're to end up where we want.

If the time ever comes when you aren't full of misplaced optimism and you're not looking forward to the beginning of the new season, it's time to quit!

Get Holtby, Eriksen on the ball deeper and we'll be fine. They both have more energy than VDV anyway.

I feel a bit of a comparison to the summer of 09. After a disappointing season, most fans seem to be content with just watching some good football, and a place in the top 6 in the season to come.

Our buys that summer underwhelmed me a bit (Crouch, Bassong and the 2 Kyles), but it was really the players that we had bought or bought back in the season before, that started to sparkle, e.g. Modric. After we beat Pool 2-1 in the opening match of the season and then went on to win the following 3, you could sense the belief coming back.

I will also never forget that beautiful April-May run-in, where we beat the Scum (effectively ending any chance of them winning the league) and Chelscum over the course of 4 days, and then went on to beat City and secure 4th. Simply beautiful.

If we could repeat something similar to this, I would be ecstatic.

The omens are there, we have some quality buys from last year hopefully ready to make their breakthrough, a winable opening 4-5 games, and apparently another piss-stained Home-shirt too (y)

(Must add that I love that shirt even though it's ugly, as it reminds me of exactly that season!)

The difference being that the last part of 08/09 we showed what basically amounted to title form and beat some very good teams, including Hiddink's Chelsea.

I was positive that summer because it was obvious Harry had pieced it together and just needed a couple of players.

I can see what you're getting at but, for me, we need to get it together quickly and start well to expect anything significant this season.

We have so many players that could play better than last season. Youngsters like Kane and Bentalab who will improve with age, and ALL our players who were in their first season with us last year, should be ready.

I remembered feeling very smug about how shit Bergcamp was in his first year at the scum, that really came back to bight me. Our players have had their ordinary first season, I think with a little bit of Poch's fire in the belly, they will shine.

The optimism that I feel before each season is ridiculous at times, the realist in me gets beaten down!! COYS

That sucks. First game of the season all games should have to be played the same day like the last IMO. Living in NZ, it means I can't watch the game now, as it will be on Tues morning our time, whilst I'm at work.

I might take a gap year after my A-Levels to solely focus on Spurs and follow them around the country, I've saved up around £6k to I'm hoping to attend every PL game.

This is our season, the season we win the league.
BELIEVE.

What's to stop us from winning all 38 PL games? There is no law that says you can't win every single PL game.

I love this. Unfortunately I think Tucker's law applies far to closely to Spurs for us to win anything

The law of averages perhaps.
