Simple question, but what is our strongest starting XI? AVB doesn't seem to know.

Personally I would like to see the following given a go:

Lloris
Walker Vertonghen Chiriches Rose
Dembele Capoue
Lennon Lamela Townsend
Adebayor
Lennon and Townsend taking on their fullbacks, getting crosses in. Lamela with a free role linking with Adebayor, and getting in the box.

What.The.Fuck.

Really?

The same 4-2-3-1 that has gifted us nothing? The same Lennon that has just not been good enough except in rare flashed? Adebayor who was shit last year and frozen out this year?

Sorry, but that is most certainly not our best team.

Chadli ---------- Soldado ---------- Lamela

Eriksen -------------- Capoue
Sandro

Rose ----- Verts ----- Vlad ----- Walker

Lloris

Or
Ade ----- Soldado

Andros ----- Eriksen ----- Sandro ----- Lamela

Rose ----- Verts ----- Vlad ----- Walker

Lloris
If you wanted to go the 4-4-2 route. (maybe even Kane instead of Ade, as he has impressed me this season when he has played)

Even then, if the manager sets the team to play a possession game and not actually attack, then regardless of what players you play in whatever formation you want, they are not going to win anything at all.

Worth mentioning that the best team we've had since the 80s played 4-2-3-1

Home Games.

---------Soldado---

Lamela---Eriksen---Lennon

-----Dembele--Capoue----

Jan---Vlad---Daws---Walker

Away.

---------Ade------

Lamela----------Lennon--

--------Dembele-------

-----Paulinho--Capoue---

Jan---Vlad---Daws---Walker

But i dont think our main problem is with our starting lineup, i think it is the way we play. Soldado havent got any service at all. He needs the ball behind the back 4. But it seems like AVB thinks that the Goals is on the long side of the pitch not the short. 99.9% of the passes is going sideways or back. seems legit that we dosent score then ? :)

What's more important is that we change our current team tactics. Worry less about keeping the ball, and worry more about creating chances.

Don't want to see Paulinho and Dembele partnership ever unless forced by injuries.

No combo has looked even close to working simply because we aren't utilising our midfield corrently. Our team tactics don't suit any of those lads which means no matter who's put out there it'll end in disappointment.

Ade & Soldado up top. Townsend left wing, Lennon right wing. Dembele and Sandro CM.

I'd like to see us at least fucking try this to prove whether or not it is as Stone Age as everyone says 4-4-2 is these days...

Dont understand why nobody are willing to get this. Andros will never be a starting player for us, at this time. He would fit good in a team like sunderland cardiff norwich but in a top 4 club he dont have the tools.

Both Lamela, Siggy, And mostly lennon are twice as good

Negredo and Aguero, Suarez and Sturridge, Van Persie and Rooney. Strange as it may seem these combinations carry more potency than Soldado and nobody.

Actually you cant have a "best team". You have to play a team that suits the way to counter the opposition. That is what makes a manager brilliant. You can play 2 strikers sometimes, 2 defensive midfielders at other times, a lone striker with 2 creative men behind him at times, sometimes sacrificing flair players like Dembele for more grit and workmanship like Holtby, etc etc.

Having said that:-

1. I wont play Soldado or Defoe as lone strikers.
2. I would confine Paulinho to cup games.
3. I wont play Lennon and Townsend together. We cant play 2 conventional wingers on each side. One can be conventional but the other side can be maybe Siggy/Chadli/Lamela to add a bit of creativity to midfield.
4. I would most certainly like to see Holtby, Lamela and Eriksen together in games where the opposition defence is tough to break.
5. I would play Capoue and Sandro together when we play away against the top teams with the intention of not losing.

Any team without Paulinho

Nonsense. Just don't play him as part of a 2 in a 4-2-3-1 as it doesn't allow him to play his natural game. Paulinho could arguably play in a central 2 in a 4-4-2 or 4-4-1-1 alongside a purely destructive anchorman but would probably be best as the top of a central midfield 3 triangle in either a 4-3-3 or 3-5-2.

If we're determined to play 4-2-3-1 I'm convinced that the best partnership in the 2 would be Sandro and Carroll.

This is nonsense too. Townsend is a young player that will sometimes make mistakes. Sometimes he will do fantastic things. As a young player that's come through our ranks I'm delighted that he has an opportunity to show what he can do.

I agree that there's nothing intrinsically wrong with 4-4-2/4-4-1-1 as a formation but if we were ever to play it, it would need Lennon and Townsend as the wide men. Eriksen isn't a wide man in that vein and although Lamela can play wide he is much more suited to playing as a wide forward (i.e. with a much more advanced starting position). The strength of Lennon and Townsend as the wide players in the 4 is that they can run with pace from deep which will stretch teams. It's what we did to good effect in the Champions League season.
