He played lb in their pre season game. He’ll play both and cover. Saliba won’t be gone, they have a lot of reports saying they won’t sell him and he’s signing a new contract
If he continues to play LB then they are dumber than I thought. Whilst he's not so much of an upgrade on their current LB he would be better than their CMs.

I still don't see the improvement that you're seeing

Great post above mentioning Arsenal being a perfect fair weather team.

Nobody personifies that more than Jesus, he is petulant and pretty weak. They may well start well and actually look a bit of a threat, but as soon as things start to go wrong or team "put it up them" they will absolutely fall to pieces. You can see that right the way through their team, they are either a bunch of moaners or phoney hard men that just lose their head (Gabriel, Xhaka, Ramsdale). Over the whole season I do not see Arsenal doing great things, but in individual games they very well might.

Think West Ham could actually be pretty decent this year, Kostic, Scammacca are great buys. Dont know much about that CB they signed but Downes is a big upgrade on Noble and could well end up getting in there with Rice ahead of Soucek. I would absolutely fancy them to do Arsenal
They haven’t signed Kostic and are unlikely to, the new CB is already injured and expected to miss the first couple of months of the season and Downes is a huge downes grade on Rice and Soucek.

Other than that though

The Goons have made some decent signings, but they still don't have a lot of depth to their squad, in my opinion.

Yes, it went down to the last game last season for top4, but that was a season where they had no European games to play midweek, were out the cups relatively early, rearranged a game to suit, and built up a decent head of steam on the run in and still melted as soon as they played us, while we stumbled about under Nuno for a couple of months, then had to allow Conte to bed in.

This coming season, they'll have europa league, one less striker than they had last season, potentially a weaker midfield, every team that finished above them last season is stronger now, plus a WC (as will we all) to negotiate, and still the same fragile mentality as last year.

They would need some near faultless season to get CL next year.

Gooners gonna goon.

They got to the Carabao semi-final, same as us.

Beaten by Liverpool. If they had Chelsea who beat us they would have probably got to the final as usual.

But I know what you mean, they probably had more new kits than cup ties

They remind me of us when we didn’t sign players that we glaringly need Ed and had a team full of softies.

You could say the same about us. We didn't have European football for a large chunk.

The same Downes that they are saying was the reason they didn't go for Bissouma, because he is a superior player??

Did they really say that, that's awesome even by West Ham levels of dimwittery
ATM the Hammers look about as strong as last year, assuming the new striker comes in and does as well as Antonio in that position.
It's difficult to predict realistically about teams like them and us ATM
My guess now would be we finish about 5 places above them, but won't be making firm predictions till one game after the window closes

It's crazy to me City have let Sterling go to Chelsea with very little fanfare or uproar. They have sold arguably one of their greatest ever players to a rival and its barely recieved any coverage. I think it says alot about their fanbase, that their non existent and plastic.
Sterling is nowhere near City's greatest ever player, not even close.
It could actually be argued that it's either Goater or Kinky and that's without looking at their recent crop of stars like Aguero, KDB, Kompany.
Sterling flatters to deceive and I wouldn't be at all surprised if the city fans aren't too bothered about him going.

Flatters to deceive? Look at his record before you come out with throw away statements . Sterling is one of the most underrated players in British football...its City loss as to Liverpool with Mane

It's just my opinion mate, not a throwaway statement.
I just find him incredibly frustrating and he wastes so many opportunities, not just for himself but for those around him.
I haven't said he's a bad player because he's not but in my opinion, he's a bit of a one trick pony.

It's why I didn't want him here because his skill set doesn't suit our team. He's good at running, dribbling and tap-ins, that's about it for me.

Plus, his record is bound to look good when you consider who he's played with.

Many others I'm sure rank higher for pre-oil City fans: Bell, Summerbee, Lee, Trautmann...

Great discussion, thanks for putting your views forward in such a succinct and intelligent manner.
?

To be honest, the was done to death in the transfer thread previously so it's probably for the best that you just resort to childishness, rather than engaging in any sensible discussion in this thread.

You've clearly made your mind up about Sterling and therefore like you've said the topic has been extensively covered in previous threads. I'm just amazed by the apathy surrounding R Sterling and his abilities. He has a recognizable running style, strong ,superb close control dribbling skills, reads the game well to get into positions to create and score goals, he generally makes things look easy because he is very efficient with his positionings. I personally think his a great player. Saying Sterling is a one trick pony well what else can be said...we see things differently on this.

I appreciate the response and apologise if I was narky. I find posts like your previous one rude and add nothing to the board discussion.
(I was also stressed because I was trying to cook dinner for the kids, the dog was getting under my feet, my son decided that was the ideal time to practice his cornet in the kitchen and my daughter was shooting me with a nerf gun! ?)

We differ on our views of Sterling but that's what football is all about. ?
