Who actually is most expensive player?

We broke our transfer record three times last summer, but certain reports have hinted that the deals were heavily subsidised by performance related clauses.

Paulinho at £17m, Soldado at £26m and Lamela £27m ish...that looks great in terms of PR (at the time), but it would be a very Levy thing to do, to make the world think we invested heavily only for the balance sheet to say differently.

Could it still David Bentley?

Would imagine Bentley was a similar setup to be honest. We'll never know really.

Bentley was the most expensive as he cost us a large transfer fee, 5 years of wages and left for nothing.

Even Paulinho would recoup a fair chunk of his fee if he was to leave now.

Lamela was widely reported as being £25.8m in guaranteed payments (instalments I assume) and a potential further £4.3m in add-ons.

I can't imagine he isn't our record signing.

Soldado's was reported as £13m up front and the other £13m in installments/clauses, so I doubt we've paid Valencia £26m yet.
