I think the OP is talking bollocks.
Really? How?

Also, thank you to the multiple people who decided to cherry pick the one aspect of my post they disagreed with instead of fostering actual discussion or replying to the question. I really enjoyed the Internet equivalent of pointing and laughing.

Christ. Now I remember why I haven't been on SC as much recently.

Because you do not have clue as to whether they care or not. It's just your misguided media driven perception on players attitudes. I do not know any of the players so I cannot accuse them of not caring. Not playing well sometimes maybe, but not caring, sorry you are wrong as you dont know.

SC is fine with people when they dont come out with total tripe.

I suspect they all care quite a lot, if for no other reason than that they are all highly competitive individuals who cannot enjoy losing.

But I do think some of them do the equivalent of what many fans do when their team is playing badly: they try to dissociate themselves from failure. The big difference is that they are responsible for their own failures on the pitch, but we all know that when things go wrong, there are a couple of things that immediately suggest themselves:

It wasn't my fault, it was his, the stupid git.

I don't care anyway.

Our footballers may not be so highly educated in self awareness to appreciate that adopting this type of attitude makes things worse for those of us who pay their wages, or that we are simple folk ourselves who value a bit of blood, sweat and tears above most other things. Thankfully, however, we are not scousers.

Rose is a little contentious, fair enough. he does have his moments where he seems very passionate and animated; then again so does Ade.

I guess what I'm really saying is how many other clubs have players like Vertonghen, Paulinho, Lennon (though to be fair he runs a lot) Adebayor, etc.? They're reaching... and I do not say this lightly, Pavlyuchenko-levels of laziness and lethargy.

If trying to thump the opposition is your idea of passion then Rose definitely qualifies!

Agree with this. You can look back in the original Soldado threads that I always saw him as a VDV type player. Mature with loads of passion. They are both winners and have been in the game long enough to give 100%.

Agree. Soldado has been the biggest disappointment for me this season, because you can see he could have been such a hit. But you cannot starve a striker of the scoring opportunities in the way AVB did and expect him not to lose his mojo.

Hopefully he will put his head back to get here and his Spurs career will start in ernest next season.

How many other players do you know who, while loaned out at another club, attend our away games with the fans in the away end if they can?

That's not how i judge a player, maybe he has a screw loose ...''LOL''

I am sure he is off the cuff, wacky and probably likes going against the grain....

I am sure he cares in his own way, but he wouldn't be one i would mention...

To really care about the clubs success or failure you have to buy into the whole club ethos and history. I dont know who of our current side does.. maybe the kids who came through the ranks - Harry Kane, Tom Carroll and long term servants like Daws.
And Benny supports Spurs.

Then players care because of their own ambitions and successes. I would wager that were we in Liverpools position Vertonghen, Ade and co would care a whole lot more. Which is really what everyone at Liverpool is crying about aside from Gerrard maybe.

First on foremost a player should be judged on ability, and you don't think he's very good, fair enough. But I personally think I've seen more evidence of him caring than the majority of players at the club.

If, come next season, Lloris, Ade, Verts and Eriksen are still with us then it's safe to assume they care.

Rose probably did care at some point, but considering all the shit thats been flung at him on this site I wouldn't blame him if he couldn't give a toss anymore.

I think the players that really care about the club's fortunes are Dawson, Kaboul, Lennon, Sandro, Holtby, Kane and possibly Bentaleb.

The first three know that this is probably as near to the top as they are going to get. They know we are a good team that could become very good, and they'll hope to be part of that as they aren't likely to ever make a move to a truly top class team.

I think Sandro and Holtby appreciate playing for a team of our stature, in the PL, and tend to play with passion as their main factor so get affected a lot by our results. It should be noted that they would probably feel that at any club they play at, as Holtby has shown at Fulham.

Kane and Bentaleb have come through the ranks and appreciate the chance to be pro's at the highest level.

I think there are several players who are professional in their approach to the game, like Lloris, but know that even if the team suffers they will get a move, probably a wage bump and play at a higher rep club. Some like Vertonghen think this without being so professional or switched on in their performance, and some like Rose epitomise the type of players who were paid big bucks early in their career and haven't really had to fight for their chance and think they will come out of it smelling of roses/wads of cash even if the club got relegated. Then there are the likes of Chadli and Paulinho who are a bit ambivalent - they are neither loyal nor disloyal and will need to be at the club longer before they really get attached to the club and the fans.

Don't think this matters. Players play for their careers not for the club unless you are 'born and bred'.
