A lot of the things people are saying about Wolves' performance today make them sound like us when we were good under Poche.

Vertonghen was roundly roasted
but pulled his chestnuts
out of the fire
and stuffed them down
Wolves' trousers at the end.
Barbecued to a cinder
but spread the ashes on the allotment
So all good.

We used to do that regularly
at one time.

This is your best work for some time. Bravo.

Disagree. That header he kept out was rapid and low. He commands his area well and organises lines quickly. The only time I’ve thought he could have done better was for Rashfords shot at the near post but even that one was not easy. Think he’s a good solid keep who will give us a 7 or 8 / 10 each week.
It's the close ones he struggles with, when he's diving to make a save he's great...Hugo throws his legs at them and keeps them out.

Nice to see a solid and organised defensive display. That and our threat on the break were two big positives today. This was helped by Dier playing very well in snuffing them out in the final third, but he was terrible with the ball.

The biggest pain for me was how weak Lucas and Son were at protecting possession, it must have been driving Jose crazy. At least Dele gets lots of fouls and gets that side to the game, those two were awful today for giving it back cheaply and that would have been the main\ thing to have cost us. That and Sanchez's distribution. But at least we had some defensive shape, organisation and will to win. Great to sneak a last minute goal. But some of the passing was so poor we could have really done some damage to them if we were fully at it.

Don't think it was, it was probably waist high maybe a little lower, when I say low I mean along the ground

I understand what you are saying but I think his positioning makes up for it. I agree he’s not Der Stegen, Pickford or De Gea but I rate him more than Hugo. Much more consistent and assured in his handling.

Great win, how’d we play? BBC sport said that we got battered all game and sneaked the win. Oh well points most important at the moment and that’s the jose way he knows how to get wins but longer term hope we can play a bit better as we can’t rely on luck the whole time longer term

Battered all game say the BBC
FFS !!!
That must be dull as f@!k Alan ‘I hate spurs’ shearer’s crappy analysis

Never at our best today, but Jose kept the faith and for once we won from not playing well. There have been plenty of times where in the past we have dominated and come away with nothing.

Imagine how good this team could be with a couple of decent fullbacks and NDombele in midfield.

COYS!

Perhaps people should rethink their assessment of our performance in the context of a really tough opponent that had been undefeated for 11 matches and was playing at home.

Wolves are seriously good - we defended them and then we beat them.

But we didn't win 30-0...... :cautious:

I would have taken a point before the game started, and was disappointed but a fair equaliser on the base of the game(that I could tell) when they scored..and then kids expected us to lose our way after that! But fair play to the team.

That maybe, but the goals were not because if counter attacking football and the times we were about to counter we didn't make the most of it. Jose got lucky today, but sometimes it's better to be lucky than good and I've lost count of the times we've been on the receiving end of these results.
Counter was the plan
That was the game though and though we threatened at times they snuffed things out.
We sufficed too their attacks
Mourinho had Winks and Skipp in the bench and we had Dier and Sissoko in mid. Little possession and creativity. But still a threat from the counter.
We won it.
Ndombele would have brought more control and creativity if he had been playing.
Winks along with Dier and Sissoko more stability.
Mourinho rolled the dice of two teams attacking and he won. Maybe fortunately but still he won

So we shouldn't criticize? Defensively we were better, but we weren't great. We hit too many long balls that wolves gobbled up and kept us under pressure, he were poor on the ball, I thought Sonny and Moura should have done a better job protecting the fall backs, our passing wasn't great.

We're all grateful for the 3 points and we defended better, but it was a poor performance.

We can always criticise, but It’s not a poor performance when you beat a high quality side away.

What Dillspur you were disagreeing that our whole plan was about countering?
It's what we did all game unlike Wolves build up play
Who was there to control the ball???
It was quickly out to Son, Moura and Dele
