Beneath that cheerless exterior Wenger is a fun person. He's got some great knob jokes. And he can drink the entire Arsenal quad under the table. So I'm told.

Lets not base management success on personality. Has Juande smiled yet?
And Southgate is pretty poor.

I too am surprised at this comment. Especially as he and Southgate are supposed to be mates.

Lets just hope he stays fit long enough to prove his own statement.

Not surprised at the comment at all. Gareth Southgate doesn't come across as the worlds best coach.....I'm just a bit surprised he said it publicly is all

Woodgate's comments may or may not have been aimed at Southgate. I'd prefer to interpret them as revealing that Woodgate has finally realized a player's career is short, and he's got to start playing at the top level, with an ambitious club, for a top coach, now.

Remember Woodgate has played for a lot of supposedly top coaches: Graham, O'Leary, Keegan (at England), Robson (at Newcastle), several at Real Madrid (including Camacho & Luxembergo). His experience at Real Madrid in particular will have exposed him to top class tactical preparation, whereas his experience with Keegan will have exposed him to a total lack of tactical preparation.

Southgate may develop into a good coach, but Woodgate spoke with Ramos before signing, and with the likes of Robbie Keane. I suspect he also spoke to his contacts in Spain. He'll know quite what a "proper manager" Ramos is. So, if Woodgate wants to win things and the choice is Ramos or Southgate, Spurs or Boro, his decision was a no-brainer.

Ditto. The fact he compares Juande to Fergie and Arse is an indication the comments were meant as praise for Ramos as opposed to being derogatory to Southgate. Gareth is still hopeless though
