Top team right there............
Ronaldo scoring 40 goals from the "wing" is the biggest myth I have ever heard.
He may go down on the teamsheet as a right winger, but the position he often takes up on the pitch is that of a striker.
What wingers do you know spend more time in the box trying to get onto the end of crosses then actually providing them themselves (CL final goal, goal vs roma, and pretty much all of them).
Ronaldo is given a free role at united, and ive read it somewhere before, the whole of last season, his general position on the pitch over all the games he had played was the most central and furthest forward of ANY united player (including their so called strikers rooney & tevez).
If he had scored his 40 goals from positions that had developed from him playing on the right, then yeah fair enough, but the fact is, he plays as a striker, and his 40 odd goals of which 90% came from him being inside the box will tell you he is not playing as a winger.
Interesting to see how many assists he got "playing on the wing"...if anyone wants to dig that up.
That aside, 40 goals in one season is still a remarkable achievement, so fair play, even though 10 came from free kicks and penalties.
Take into account every single one of Torres' 30+ goals for pool last season came from open play...
If I remember correctly it was 3. Ronaldo plays more of an old fashioned inside right position, rather than as a right winger. Personally I think that Messi's better, Ronaldos got more skill, pace and is physically stronger, but Messi's got the brains and the temperament, and in the big games, thats what you want.
I simply like him coz he was my favorite player in FML :grin:Toure?
Hmmm...
.......................Casillas...........................
Ramos......Terry..........Puyol................Cole
.......................Essien............................
............Iniesta..........Lampard..................
Messi........................................Ronaldo
.....................Drogba..........................
Contraversial selection of a few players so ill justify them:
Casillas-not too many arguments-most shots against him in La Liga, fewest goals conceded.
Ramos-Strength, pace and good on the ball-pretty much perfect
Terry-Great in the air and a great leader on the pitch
Puyol-justified his selection with Euro 2008 performances-Terry goes for the first ball, Puyol gets the second one.
Cole-Left footed which IMO gives him the edge over Lahm
Essien-absolute destroyer and can use the ball brilliantly
Iniesta-best passer in the world at the minute and was one of two positives about Barca last season. If you ever see him play live you will understand how good this guy actually is
Lampard-the most successful AMC of all time if you consider the amount of goals he gets-with Essien and Iniesta next to him, he has the freedom to get in the box at will and get all the second balls of Drogba.
Messi-best player in thw world
Ronaldo-second best player in the world
Drogba-best hold up player ive ever seen (last year in the 4-4 he was ridiculous-unplayable when on form)-will win all of the long balls and knock them down for Lampard whilst he has the ability to bring Ronaldo and Messi into the game with intelligent passing and movement.
