What we need is a really solid and positive piece of ITK this afternoon to lift the mood in here!

My beef is with our failure to improve the striking situation last summer, as it was we were resting on our laurels when others were strengthening, namely City. Fair enough we cant get anywhere near them in terms of competing for targets but last summer was defiitely an opportunity missed IMO.

Everybody knows January is difficult to conclude big business and I can see why we might be struggling to make any in roads in that respect.

It least I have lowered my expectations regarding a new striker - if it happens I'll be over the moon.

We're probably just waiting for other teams to make a move first. If Chelsea get Torres then we could move late for Anelka. If Ajax get another striker and get fed up of Liverpool, then we could get Suarez. If Real Madrid sign another striker, then we could get Benzema. etc etc.

Daniel Levy really does love deadline day. He can squeeze every last penny out of a deal and get himself another Van Der Vaart bargain.

have they bought Alexis Sanchez?

Not yet, but they have been making some serious noises about it.

The fact that they are making such a big effort suggests that Leonardo isn't particularly happy with his options.

All these people with the outlook of "if we dont sign a striker it will be a huge missed opportunity". Its not like Harry or Levy have just been sitting on their arses and not trying. If the players arent available, be it in january or summer, then we arent going to get them. Its not a simple case of identify -> bid -> buy. It doesnt work like that. We have to accept that as we dont have a huge stadium or a billionaire owner, we simply cannot afford to offert the wages that MOST big name strikers command without seriously damaging our finances. That means we have to rely on the players having an attitude to WANT to play for the club and have reasonable monetary demands (like VDV), as well as being allowed to leave by their clubs. This limits us considerably. Yes, i will be disappointed if we dont sign a striker. We are crying out for one. But if we dont, im not pinning the blame on either the best manager or chairman that weve had in decades.

Dont get me wrong I am a big fan of Harry and Levy but I think most agree that for the first season in years we are only a top striker short of a serious tilt at the title. I cant remember the last time we were this close to being a complete team. We have had two transfer windows at least to address this problem. People will get frustrated and they will point the finger at the men who run the team and the club as a whole.

Rebrab states in his ITK that we are not being unambitious. If that is so then we are being extremely careful. I am afraid as most that we will end up missing the boat in terms of outing any of the top 4 and establishing ourselves. It pains me to see Torres seemingly trotting off to Chelski and Suarez to LFC, Dzeko to Man C even Gyan looks a steal. I am beginning to rue the day I wanted Bent out because whatever you may think off him he scores goals.

So I see that West Ham have completed the signing of Demba Ba, not a loan either. I really like him as a player and was saying last year that we should try and go for him as he wouldn't be too expensive so would be quite low risk. I'll be very interested to see how he does. I guess that means they won't be pursuing Keane any more.

I just checked Marca and although maybe not the most reliable they have some quotes from Benzema and it really doesn't sound like he's going anywhere tbh, it is translated from Google but you get the picture:

Karim Benzema has reacted positively to developments in recent days and has notified his superiors that "I'm going to succeed here. I can with the pressure and I'm willing to work hard to earn the job. "

Scoring the winners in his last 2 games has been good for his confidence it seems.

I hope we're looking at other targets and not just putting all our efforts into the obvious, there must be some other bargains out there. I refuse to believe that any striker that is better than what we have would command 100k+ wages.

I'm still hoping we're going to sign a decent striker... and ideal let one go (Pav or Keane)... just looking at the stats is depressing

Bale = 7 PL goals
Keane + Pav + Crouch + Defoe = 6 PL goals

Milito to Madrid, Benzema to Spurs. Window closes.

Sorted.

This crossed my mind and it would really fit in with that the ITK's are saying about other moves elsewhere having to slot into place in order for our options to become available.
