No, I'd consider it to be the equivalent of turning a used condom inside out so you can have a quick second shag when the long term solution is to get the bird to take the pill.

In other words, you may get a bit of short term enjoyment, but in the long term you'll have nothing but regrets.
Yep, exactly as I thought. If Gomes is going to be replaced, personally speaking I don't think he needs to be, then at least bring in a GK better than what we have already got.....

Harry must see Friedel as a stop gap for one season only why we continue to look...at 40 though there really isn't another way to attempt to speculate on the thinking behind it.

I have always liked Friedel, he's had some outstanding seasons but at the age 40 - it just doesn't enthuse me one little bit.

He's been better at Villa than lots are making out but lets no kid ourselves he's on the decline big time.

There is a whole Summer to consider options though, signing Friedel for that reason is giving up a bit early isn't it?

Gomes gets told he has a real fight for a place to prove he's better than an ageing, top class goalkeeper this season. He does and both keepers do well and are rotated on performance, or Friedel performs better and Gomes is sold next year and a younger keeper is brought in to the team with Friedel as solid, experienced back up with Carlo having now left the club.

OR Gomes is sold and another younger keeper brought in this window to compete with Friedel.

I'd guess the former and depending on the other potential keepers I'd be pretty content with any of these scenarios to he honest.

Head in sand. Friedel is replacing Gomes.

Couple more oldie links......

Chelsea striker Didier Drogba could reject interest from AC Milan to make a shock move to Tottenham.
Full story: talkSPORT

Everton and Tottenham are interested in veteran German striker Miroslav Klose, who is a free agent after his Bayern Munich contract expired.
Full story: Daily Mirror

Know its not ITK but I'd love drogba not so sure on klose

Should Gomes really need another goal keeper to push him though?

I dont buy that personally.

He shouldn't, but if you have been pretty much a shoe in to play every game it's possible a bit of complacency setting in could happen.

A bit of competition doesn't hurt. I know when I went on tour and we took two other keepers I raised my game and I ended up being player of the tournament.

Weren't we this close to signing Neville, then nothing came of it? Untill we see it on the OS, I'm in complete denial to believe that we've even made contact with Friedel.

It was only because of a matter of time and money (not enough of either). Not lack of will I am sure.

There is a whole Summer to consider options though, signing Friedel for that reason is giving up a bit early isn't it?

He's a bargain as he's a free and Harry can't resist that. Probably in his mind he thinks Fridel will be snapped up (and probably will if we don't) so wants to get in there before someone else does.

The more I think about it, I think Friedel has came thinking he can really compete with Gomes. One or the other will have something to prove and I think the competition for a place will keep both sharp. 2 seasons ago Friedel was on for the Golden Gloves at fucking Villa for crying out loud.

If Gomes cant match up he will be gone. I can see this being an excellent signing the more I think about it. Either the mistakes finish or he's finished IMO.

LUKA MODRIC has told Spurs to make big signings this summer - or he could quit.

The Croatian midfielder is a £25million target for the likes of Manchester United and mega-rich Manchester City.
Modric, 25, signed a six-year deal last season and insists he is happy under boss Harry Redknapp.
But loyalty comes at a price with the playmaker anxious to see how the club move forward from last season's Champions League debut.
A Tottenham insider said: "Harry's gone on record saying how Spurs won't sell Modric or any other big-name star.
"But while Luka has declared himself happy with what Tottenham have done so far, he is also fiercely ambitious.
"He's waiting to see if Harry can make a couple of 'marquee' signings. That will tell him what direction the club is heading in."

Yeah competition is definitely healthy, not disagreeing with that.

Plenty of keepers though play every game of the season and dont have what you would call strong competition. I couldn't even name you Reina's comepition at Liverpool and the likes of Hilario I'm sure dont give Cech much desire to up his game.

I think the likes of Reina etc play to a high standard week in week out because there that good.

For me what seperates the good and the best players in the League is consistency....or a large part of it.

Friedel has been consistently good behind worse defences than ours right throughout his Premier League career IMO.

Surely Friedel fits this profile?

Sunny has posted The Sun's "article" in the Luka thread in Spurs Chat.

If we could keep this thread on topic to discuss ITK, with any paper (or Talkshite) articles in Spurs Chat (if related to one of our existing players) or the relevant player thread in Transfer Rumours (for potential signings), that should help us make sure we pick up most of the ITK and can put it in the Read Only Section.

Merci

Agreed AJ. Some people on here who think signing Parker is a bad thing are derranged.

It's just more rehashing, really.
And rrehashing from interviews and articles where Modders (and, I think, Charlie), where both hugley favourable towards Spurs and Modders' intention regarding staying at the Lane.
Yet, from it there has been a media fest that Luka is ready to leave, just in general, because we haven't got CL, and, most importantly, because we have failed to impress him with the signings we haven't even made yet - and all for a whopping £20 million.

Anyone get the idea the prerss are:
A) Working for Red Nose;
B) Where A is false, so in thrall to United that they engineer moves for them;
C) <CENSOR EVASION>s

Despite the fact I am unsure about the signings of Friedel and Parker. Atleast these coupled with Leandro show we're trying to make signings early.
