I don't think VdV is the best example of that at all. Considering he was on a list at the start of the last season but was deemed too expensive, then when Levy got the call he asked Redknapp if he was interested, he said yes. Doesn't seem like an issue there.
It was Levy that worked the deal to get him.
If they had talked about him early in the window and decided he was too expensive why does Redknapp continually say I dont know where to play him, he does give me a selection headache? Surely why discuss a player you cant see fitting in your team? If you had discussed it and only price was the problem, when you do get him you struggle to fit him in? Thats either poor scouting or the price was to good to refuse a World Class player you hadnt bargained for.
