Berbatov was at his best playing with Keane who played off him slighly to the left similar to VDV (not exactly). When he played with Defoe in a tradtional 442 I dont think he was as effective.

I was talking to an old friend of mine who is a massive arsenal fan and season ticket holder.

He was laughing at the prospect of us signing Adeboyor suggesting that he is off side more than anyone ever and has no skill only power and pace.

Don't get my wrong, me personally I am a big fan of him and think he would provide us a great deal but it was interesting to hear a differing view from fan who at one time would have watched him week in week out.

No. Defoe sucks. And even then Berbatov made him look good on occasion.

I know it sounds rather out there but you must have had that feeling when spurs are linked with a player where your gut just says hell no why?!!! Like the Phil Neville one maybe?
That's the feeling I have with Rossi just don't think he's what we née and especially for the price if it was say 14 mil yh go for it! But not 33 unless it's a levy special and he does it all in adds when scores certain amount we simply just can't justify it! I feel like he's going to be a flop the same way I felt when we signed bentley and keane back!

Yes for sure, but if Harry and Levy identify him as a player that is worth bringing in then I am prepared to back them (For instance signing Pienaar and Friedel didnt impress me, but I will trust the people in charge of our club that they will improve us)

Maybe we will change the way we play if Rossi or any other player was to come in? The 4-4-1-1 was hardly perfect for us last season, and a tweak to it or a change altogether may be in the pipeline and with change this is where Rossi fits in.

Oh and lastly I agree £30m+ is steep, but we wont pay that money for any player this summer IMO. We dont have a bottomless pit of dosh and with Leandro plus others seemingly coming in as well we cant just blow it all on one striker, I would think that Levy is trying to negotiate down (this would tie in with the 'long and winding road' ITK) to around £20m and get as good a deal as possible for us.

Im sure he is not even in the same league as a current member of our strikeforce

He would probably swap his season ticket for a straight jacket if they sign Defoe then

I do remember that Adebayor was the most offside player in the league statistically a few years ago. Maybe he has improved in this respect? Who knows.

All 32 of Rossi's goals last season.

My word, a striker that can actually get behind the last defender. We've not had one of them since Keane in 07/08.

Defoe and Rossi are nothing alike.

Rossi = Defoe + intelligence + movement + pace + finishing.

Actually, and I'm not kidding, getting rid of VDV and bringing in Adebayor/Berbatov and Rossi would be enough to make us top four. Big ifs obviously. Oh and that would be contingent on health.

100% agree. In our case with our Midfield our best set up is with VDV off a main striker so Adebayor is more effective than Rossi. Otherwise forget VDV altogether and play Adebayor and Rossi in a 442.

Why get rid of vdV? All 3 can easily be accomodated, just like Liverpool do with Carroll (Adebayor), Suarez (Rossi) and Gerrard (vdV):

---Sandro---Modric

Rossi-----vdV-----Bale

------Adebayor

Yes I can definitely see the arguments for having a mobile target man who offers a real goal threat ie Adebayor who would be perfect and he would be my preference and certainly a very safe bet for ticking the boxes in terms of what we need.

However Rossi could be devestating in our line up too. Yes he brings a different sort of threat and thats movement and instinct in abundance. The sort of clever runs our forwards were failing to make time and time again to open up the space for others...not to mention the poor finishing.

We lacked that clever movement up top this season and our play suffered as a result. I see Rossi offering plenty of quality movement, can link well when needed and of course the boy can finish and a lot of the time League games are decided by the one goal.

I would personally being going for Adebayor becuase I think the team dynamic probably benefits more but I wouldn't rule out Rossi making a 'hernandez' type of impact, VDV supporting ala Rooney. Hard work, great movement and intelligence can be a very potent combination up top.

In short I'll be made up with either even though they're very different, but its the calibre of either player that will improve us IMO, no matter the exact sytle of play in the final third - you play to your strengths.

It's got to be both Adebayor and Rossi if at all possible. A genuine top calibre partnership in the tradition of Berbatov-Keane, Sheringham-Klinsmann, Archibald-Crooks, Greaves-Gilzean etc.

Please lets play our players in their proper position. If, and its a huge if, we get Rossi for 30 million we are buying a striker who is a sublime finisher, I dont think playing him on the right of midfield is the right way to go.

I doubt many Arsenal fans will have too many positives to say about Adebayor so I'm not sure if there being completely objective there...although I'm sure they the offside side stats were correct.

I'll be honest, he was certainly one of their players I feared when we played them.

Maybe we're all misguided by the fact he always plays well against us
