Buck offers 35m for Modric and then Modric hands in a transfer request - nothing we could do at that point.

I honestly don't believe Chelsea will get Modric this transfer window, but I thought it would be good to pass on information that Chelsea have not stopped their interest.

I don't understand what your trying to say ? Nothing we could do at this point??? Same thing levy done weeks ago modric is not for sale at any price! not having a pop because I believe Chelsea are still interested but levy is stubborn as a mule modric will not go this window.

Bruce Buck can believe all he wants.

The truth of the matter is that Modric is not for sale at any price this summer.

Given Daniels statement I'd be very apprehensive to bid for Modric,
if Chelsea don't want the burden of any ramifications because of it.

Buck knows his stuff though tbf Liverpool are apparently a small club north of M25

http://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/fo...n-tells-Liverpool--Youre-just-small-club.html

Oh and although I said Russian earlier since he is the organ grinder, his monkey has previous form for "tapping up"

http://www.telegraph.co.uk/sport/fo...-tapping-up-claims-by-Santos-over-Neymar.html

Anyway til something more solid happens other than the expected brown stuff Chavs face if Levy does take matters further. He is already taking on the Government, dildo brothas et al fair to believe Chavs with a host of issues in their midst not least with us would prove easy pickings.Personally bucky o hare needs to stfu and yes that is Buck not the guy posting ITK im talking about.

Have we said 50m? Look the information I was given suggests that our Chairman is not as hellbent on keeping Modric as everyone here suspects. Maybe that is just CFC being rosy-eyed, or that could just be the truth. Look how much pressure 'Arry has been placing on Levy to make "3 top signings" "never sell our best players we will become WHU" etc.

Yes, Levy said it would take £50 million just to get him to pick the phone up.

Suspect has nothing to do with it, reading a totally unambiguous statement which states categorically that Modric won't be sold, and from which Levy wouldn't be able to back down whilst retaining any credibility (to the point where his Chairmanship would probably become untenable) has got everything to do with it.

I think it is either Chelsea being rosy-eyed about it - kinda like when a girl says "feck off and die dog breathe" and a lad still convinces himself she is giving come-on eyes while saying it. And the denouement to this story is the suspended sentence and restraining order for stalking.

Or, maybe, your 'friend' is winding you up:shrug:

I don't think 'Arry has been putting pressure on Levy, I think they have been presenting a united front on this issue.

No matter what bids are made,Levy will make him stay for at least another season,if we have made no progress then the issue can be reviewed.
Let's be honest Luka's value is not going to decrease in a year.

Totally agree with you! I think Modric will be a Spurs player come September and that we will have one top quality striker on our books - that's right, Carlton Cole.

rather have Jay Bothroyd than Carlton fuckin Cole (actual middle name)

If you painted his (cole's) face white and put some red swirls on his cheeks he would be the mask in Saw... And that's the only reason i don't like him, cos he has a big fucking face!

CL qtrs, TWO new shirt deals and were fucking skint???? Has Levy spent the lot on private investigators and collectors editions of razzle magazine???

If this is true Im calling the police myself because there has been a fucking robbery.

Carlton Cole & Kenwyne Jones.

Anyone swap these for 2 (or 3) of Defoe, Keane, Crouch or Pav?

Eek will definitely have nightmares tonight...

If we're replacing some of our strikers it has to be with players that are better not the same or worse

Totally agree with you. Just looking at worst case scenario.

Oh forgot to mention Benjani, I'm sure he's available on a free (for good reason)!

Give me any 1 of Rossi, Adebayor, Vucinic or Llorente (& Leandro) any day. In Levy we trust.....

Some posters agree with this completely...I disagree with it completely.

This window isn't shaping up to anything...it's only just bluddy started.

There is an obsession on here that we won't be able to sell our dead wood, but I don't see where it is coming from. Newly promoted teams and teams at the bottom of the league are always looking for experienced reasonably high level performers. We have several who can hardly make our bench, but would were morethan capableof playing regulararly in a team that finished in the top 5 3 years out of four, won the Carling Cup and reached the final another year. That is because we have got better. The players we are talking about may not be good enough for a team looking to regularly finish in the top 4, but they are certainly good enough for at leat half the clubs in the division. And this is the Chairman who made a profit on Mido. Add all of these facts (n.b. facts, not doom laden prophesies) together and I believe it is far more likely that we will sell the dead wood, even if on some of them we don't make a profit. The hardest to sell with clearly be Bentley, the Chairman may have to take a hit on that one (I agree with those who have said he should take a hit just to get some players off the pay roll), but even that doesn't dent the general argument.

What is our financial situation then...you know, the one you use to justify so much of your prophesy. As far as I am aware, we had money to spend in January (quite a lot), we always have a Summer transfer kitty, we have CL money, and we have money from player sales. Doesn't sound that bad to me. If you are alluding to the fact that we didn't qualify for the CL you should be aware that at the start of the season Daniel Levy specifically stated that he had drawn a budget up to take the club forward and it excluded qualifying for the CL for a second year in it's financial forecasts. Besides, in a more general sense, I thought ALL Spurs fans recognised that Daniel Levy had run the club in such a way that we are one of the few big clubs in a seriously good financial state to meet the new UEFA regulations - where does that fir into other clubs knowing our financial situation?

Discounting this portion of your argument, and find it pointless to discuss the effect of not buying any forwards as I believe we will buy forwards, I don't see the point in discussing what will happen if we have to start the season with Crouch. Get a grip - all you have done is created the worst case scenario in your own head and then imbued ti with some form of life, like it is real. It is the old Spurs-fan fallacy, paint everything as black as possible, then ifit happens you can not be too upset, and with the added bonus of being able to say "I told you, I told you", and if it all turns out to the good you cna be happy anyway. Fine, if that is how you want to go - personally I'm prepared to be optimistic and face the consequences. But it isn't a logical argument, it is just a (reasonably) well worded presentation of a worst case scenario.

And for the record, I was in favour of Suarez in January, and I was also one of the few to back Levy, originally over the DOF policy, on these forums, when the majority opinion was totally against it, and to criticize him, for allowing too much of the buck to stop with Comolli when he sacked him, whern Levy should have faced more of a rap - and that was totally against the concensus, so, please, don't try to present yourself as some avant-gaarde rebel, and those who disagree with you as concensus Levy/Redknapp sycophants, eh.

Oh, and for the record, this bit made me laugh: "we don't have until August 31st to bring in a new striker. No striker we need is going to be sold by his club at that juncture of the transfer window, and if they do contemplate selling to us, we will be quoted massive prices that Levy likely won't meet." Let me see what the minimum number of words I can use to refute this is...okay, here goes - VDV £8 Million:hump:

I welcome your criticism. I sincerely appreciate the optimistic attitude that you have. I would LOVE nothing more than to tell you on August 31st, 2011 that your prognostications were brilliantly poignant, and that I was short-sighted with my negativity.

In regards to selling our deadwood: the primary issue is the smaller clubs you confidently cite as likely destinations, in most instances, are not going to meet our price quotes. I suspect Levy will eventually have to re-evaluate his pricing on a few players, but he very well may not do so until later in the window, at which time turning around and using that money for incoming transfers might prove more cumbersome.

In regards to our financial situation, what do you make of numerous reports that Spurs' transfer budget this summer is predicated on sales of our own players? Judging by your post, I'd guess that you believe, like I do, that the money is (or at least should be) absolutely there to invest heavily this summer, irrespective of us taking in millions of pounds in transfer fees. The issue(and I think this is where we may disagree) is one of conviction and calculated risk.

Spending 30 million pounds on Fernando Llorente, Falcao, or Giuseppe Rossi is a calculated risk that I don't personally forsee Levy taking at this juncture. I sincerely hope he does so (and I'm sure you'll tell me he has the gumption to make it happen, given our purported bids in January in excess of 30 million pounds), and I'm proven completely wrong when our world-class, pile-driving, goal-scoring striker arrives in the coming weeks.

As for Rafael Van der Vaart's transfer: Would you not concede his coming to us was a bit of an anomaly, and not the norm in world football? Can you cite for me recent instances, besides his, where world-class players moved to significantly smaller clubs for cut-rate prices on the final day of the window?

What surplus striker do you forsee being a candidate to move to us on August 31 for around 10 million pounds? Will City sell Adebayor to us? Will Chelsea sell Drogba to us? Will Roma sell Vucinic? Will Champions League bound Villareal and Porto sell us their star players without replacing them? If there are other potential strikers I don't know about who are likely last minute targets this summer in the class of Van der Vaart, please alert me to them.

Nevertheless, my entire argument is premised on the fact that this is the most important transfers window in decades for the club. This is the first time in many years where we have multiple world class players in their prime, on one time, and can honestly say that we are 2 bold signings away from competing for the league title. Not making our team stronger and missing out on top 4 will make keeping our current world class players much more difficult.

You seem to believe Levy will make the signings to consolidate and advance our current standing. I'm skeptical that he will. That's the divide. I hope I am completely wrong. I really, really, really hope you're right..

We are looking to clear about 20million a year off the wage bill first id imagine. wouldnt want another 200-300k a week ontop of what the dead wood earn already.

We aren't skint, but we cant afford to pay extra wages until some are unloaded. We probably had a budget for wages, but last season there was no panic as we were in the champions league, can could afford to send players on loan and cover some of the cost, hoping they would get game time and put themselves in the window. Now we can't, we need rid of players.

Mostly because it hasn't gone. I am sure of this. We still need to sell before we buy but not for any other reason but to clear wages and clear out our squad, which is to put it simply massive.

Looking at our finances which are open to the public we are well positioned and could afford big figures without harming us too much. The only issue I can think of is stadium issues.

I'm off to bed after a horrible weekend of illness, car trouble and baby teething. Not to mention the £15 I wasted on Haye last night. Never again will Sky Box Office see my money.

Worst of all though was the complete and utter crap on here. No transfer rumours, never mind ITK. And I have sat and watched while everyone turns on each other.
We need a signing and we need one quick. Not for the clubs sake, or Spurs' seasons sake. But for us, the fans sake.

That is all.
