I've heard (not from my usual person, but someone I'm fairly confident in nevertheless) that Chelsea have serious intent to buy Joao Moutinho. Came as a bit of a surprise for me, because he was linked with Everton a couple of years back but since then I thought his career had stalled a bit??? But doesn't he play basically the same role as Modric would, or is he more of a replacement for Lampard?

Wouldnt say his career stalled, been a big part of porto's success..

but http://www.skysports.com/story/0,19528,11095_7022861,00.html

he plays as one of the attacking 2, in a 3 man midfield so the same as lampard, and even modric if we played 4-3-3

Not just about first eleven though, Liverpool are building a squad now, granted not with glamourous big name signings, but they are getting some depth in....

Yeah...Liverpool have a massive name.
Yeah...they are buying early in this transfer window.

But it is obvious exactly what is going on. Now, some folk on here want like me for saying this, but they are, basically like a superior version of what we were when comolli came here. He brought us all of the best young English/British talent he could get his hands on. Now he is doing the same for Liverpool. We have reaped the benefits of this by comfortably meeting the recommendations on squad composition and Home Grown players, and Liverpool will too. And neither team will be in danger of failing to qaulfiy in this reard any time soon. We have dozens of decent young players a the club now - many brought in directly by Comolli.

Like I said, Liverpool are starting from a higher base to us - but how long did it take us to get to this stage? Four years:shrug: Five:shrug: I don't believe we are that far ahead of Liverpool in terms of development (before I am accused of saying we are). But we wer evisibly better than them last season, and, I believe, the season before.

You want a proper gauge of our comparative ability at the moment then consider these questions:
How many World Class players do the clubs have? We have Modric and VDV who are definitely World Class. We have Bale who probably is. And we have Sandro who possibly is. We also have a very good supporting cast. Liverpool have Reina. They have Gerrard, but he is at least approaching the wrong end of his career, has had a bad injury and has yet to show that he has come back from it in a condition to play his high energy game. And then...smoe half decent players, not many who would get into our 1st eleven, though, and some decidedly dodgy 1st eleven/squad players.

Secondly, if at the end of the season, if either club had brought one immense player, what differecne would it make in terms of squad composition? Obviously, we would be saying a striker, so, that would give us possibly five World Class players and making us about 3 times as effective. Liverpool would have possibly 3 World Class players, but could they match the increase in effectiveness that we would get from a World Class striker? I doubt it. And they would still have to fill their squad out, to clear some of the dross.

Basically, most of their spending is clearing the dross out, they certainly haven't brought anyone in who is World Class. Whereas, with a bit of luck, and a bit of Levy magic, we could end up with two more World Class players - which would make 6 in our team, with a strong and improving supporting cast - that is title contending quotas.

I don't write them off, but I do think we have a superior team/squad and that will be equally marked in Septmeber.

btw levy said modric will be happy when he meets up with his "team mates"..

could he mean new team mates??

I didn't think of it like that

Though to be honest I still don't think of it like that.

Good news on modric, but we need a sign of intent by levy, to stop this modric matter turning into anither berbatov saga.

we need more pace, more creativity more goals coming from midfield.. all roads lead to Mata for me.. i really think we are in for this lad in big way. it ticks all the boxes.. and he im sure is available..striker positions will eventually fall into place once city and chelsea sort out who they want.

You make some salient points as always and I don`t disagree, Liverpool are certainly on the way up and with scope for improvement from Carroll, Suarez and Merieles I think they will be a better side next season than most people...

Better than the media that are billing Liverpool to title challenge, can't work out if they are bigging them up - so the failure looks worse.

Levy's comment when SSN asked him "is he happy to stay" and Levy said "he will be when he meets up with the rest of squad" leads you to believe not all went well. But that also implies that Levy said you aint going no where. Fair play. When i grew up players never left clubs until the club told them they were going. People said that was wrong, now players tell the clubs when they are leaving, which is also wrong. There's no happy medium. Modric has five years left on his contract and will be made to stay at least one more year. We are Tottenham Hotspur, bigger than any player, and in Levy, we will dictate this situation not some russian gangster....and if all else fail, just rip them for £70M.....

Maybe because there'll soon be new additions to this squad:pray:

"Hello Mr Modric nice to meet you I'm Mr Rossi and this is Mr Vucinic" :hump:

"We came to tell you that if you wish to say goodbye to Mr Hutton, Mr Jenas, Mr Keane, and Mr Crouch then you should hurry up. They're due to leave today" :)

Anyone else feel like we've secured a minor victory today over the teams like Chelsea and City who believe they can buy anyone whenever they like?

Turning point in world football, maybe.

We really need to put all this behind us now. Hopefully it will all be forgotten about soon enough. I just hope the idiotic fans dont get on his back after all this. Most of the stuff has been rumoured and we haven't heard it straight from Modric in the first place. So there's no need to treat him like scum. Tevez wanted to leave City long before this summer but he stayed and do you think City were moaning when he put in MOTM performances? Same goes for Fabregas as well.

I really think we need to look forward now. Modric stays, we move on. Now lets show the ambition that will keep all our star players happy.
