He is? Last time we were in for him he was quoted as saying we weren't a big enough club...

times change brother, maybe he heard the taxi for Maicon chants, and watched Bale hanging out the back of him

That's exactly what I'm talking about - loyalty. Screw the boss leaving, screw the big boys knocking at the door - I'm staying in shitty Portugal, I am young enough to get my move later.

Pity our star player does not follow a similar line of thought.

Could have said the same thing about luka last summer signing a 6 year contract

if valencia are in foe dos santos surely some skills or common sense wud lead us to mata. santos and some cash for mata wud be unreal.

Your view of the footballing world really is dangerously simplistic isn't it?

I honestly think many players would consider us now after performing so well in Europe against Inter, Werder and Milan. Im not saying Etoo or players of that quality, but surely people like Vucinic, Mata, Adebayor who wouldnt have considered us a few years back would do so now.

I think he said at the time that he wanted to move to a bigger club. Roma had just finished 2nd in Italy and we'd finished 11th. You can kind of understand it, I dont think it was personal.

Apparently, Porto have a history of using heavy handed tactics in order to get players to sign contract extensions, and to make them stay. And yes, you read that right, there are rumours that the President has dispatched henchmen to physically intimidate staff into singing/staying. I've heard they have possible mafia connections as well.

Not saying this is the case with Falcao, but interesting none the less.

Yep, and I'd wager that players in Italy probably would've been left with the biggest impression. Mirko couldn't have failed to note Bale's hat trick in the San Siro, us demolishing Inter at home, and the AC exploits. All happening, when those teams were far above his in the league

And Fabregas came from Barce at 16/17, Wiltshire from Luton - where are we drawing the line?

This is the point I was going to make.

my point being that when was the last lad that we had from a young teenager that came through the ranks.........Ledley King. That is a pretty poor show

We are pretty good at picking up young men but not finding boys with talent

(that sounds gay doesn'r it??)

But you've changed your point.
You specifically mentioned Fabregas and Wiltshire as examples from the Goons, and others pointed out that under the same terms (i.e. produced by other clubs and then scouted above a certain age), we have had quite a few players break through.
You can't have it both ways.

But I think the issue is that few if any prem clubs are good at bringing kids through due to the limited range of their catchment area. Teams like Leeds, Newcastle and Middlesboro are better suited to doing so than an area like London with 11 pro clubs. Chelsea and Arsenal haven't done much at all either.

To be fair, even Ledley didn't come through as a youth. He came around 16-17 from Senrab FC who developed him, Terry, Defoe, C***bell, Izzet and a few others.

I think it is to do with the pressure at the top.
Bigger clubs are more likely to buy a ready made player they can pretty much know will slot into a team, rather than risk a young lad who could turn out to be a disaster or just plain not ready.

Yes - exactly. It was hardly offensive then.

I reckon Falcao has just signed that contract to get the club more money when he's sold. We all, sadly, know that long term contracts don't mean anything and it wouldn't surprise me if he's just agreed this to get a higher fee when he's sold (plus a higher cut for him).

Don't the release fees only apply domestically anyway? Or is that just in Spain?

To all the ITK's on here, have any of you heard anything about Shaqiri?

I'd actually prefer him over someone like N'zogbia or Marin

Thinking about it could Storts ITK be about him?

Totally agree that this plays a big part in it as well.

I've read somewhere that N'zogbia is Villa bound.

Let's put it this way...I think the inner workings of the transfer working are closer to rocket science than football manager. Kid.

if you have a club withg money its easy . money talks and all the bullshit that comes with it walks. kid.
