We need some positive ITK or I fear that the Samaritans could be getting quite a few calls from SC members in the next few days.

I'm not going to cry if Mata goes to Arsenal. I'd prefer Afellay anyway

Our current striker situation, now that's 'adult male crying session' inducing

....."I'm not crying.........it's just allergies!"

Not necessarily. Maybe he looks at Arsenal and sees the likelihood of them losing two of their three best players in Fabregas and Nasri. Maybe he looks at Arsenal and sees them not winning trophies in years. Maybe he looks at Arsenal and sees how they constantly talk big only to falter 2/3s into the season.

Maybe he sees Spurs having more ambition. Maybe he sees Spurs' performance in the Champion's League and likes the idea of being in a team that holds no fear of anybody. Maybe he sees Spurs and believes that he could be one of the two or three missing pieces that'd turn Spurs into champions.

Not that I'm saying he'll jizz himself at the prospect of signing for Spurs. But I also don't believe it's as clear cut as "Arsenal or Spurs? Arsenal, obviously."

Ahh if only. Unfortunately our lack of CL football will probably mean we wont sign him.

I'm not too fussed with him. As I said, I think Afellay would be a more viable option

Absolutely agree. I can appreciate what a pain in the arse mercenary footballers must be, not to mention their clubs wanting to play one club off against another.

BUT, that being said, if I know that, so must Levy. In an ideal world we'd have signed someone before the window actually opened. Is that difficult? Yes, not many clubs would want to sell an asset in a closed market, but this is Levy. He who turns shit into gold coins!

If it was just this window, I wouldn't be so disappointed, but this is happening over and over again.

Find your target, and get them bought. I don't know if the issue is the fear of overpaying or the bloated squad, but either way they aren't good enough reasons to delay improving our team in my opinion.

As the club is being run as a business they are good enough reasons unfortunately.

It is frustrating because we all want to see players coming in but if you pay over the odds once you end up doing it again and again. Why do you think Liverpool have ended up paying 40m + for Henderson and Downing? It's because people saw them splash 35m on Carroll and were subsequently going to take them for a ride on any future transfers.

The fact is that we aren't a club with an excess of money. Yes we've got alot but not enough that we don't have to think about balancing the books. It may seem like 'just the odd extra 3m here and there' but that can quickly spiral out of control (as has happened at Leeds/Birmingham/West Ham etc).

The one thing that does frustrate me is that whilst trying for the likes of Rossi, our scouting network doesn't entirely seem to be finding cheaper alternatives. You can't buy from the Premiership because it's too expensive but we need to be finding players like Arsenal found Adebayor, or like United found Hernandez. Maybe then we don't have to pay 25m plus for players.

I disagree and I think you're still looking at it with Spurs tinted glasses. Arsenal have one of the best managers in the world. Arsenal can pay significantly more money. Arsenal have consistent been in the later states of the CL and challengers for the PL and domestic cups pretty much every season for the last 10 years. We have potential, which counts for nothing until we start to realise it.

I admire your optimism but for me they've got:

1) A bigger stadium, therefore bigger income, therefore more wages
2) A better respected manager internationally. Players all love to play for wenger.
3) They've simply been better than us for quite a long time now. Even though we've closed the gap they have still been in title races whereas we haven't.

I'd love to be wrong but I can't see many reasons why someone would choose us ahead of them.

Arsenal have always had more Spaniards, can pay more wages and have the CL to offer.

We had Nayim, offer wages in jelly beans and are in the Europa League.

Come to think of it, I'm struggling to think of more Spurs Spaniards besides Cesar...

So... can I get a snapshot of where we are? Is the situation still the same: We're gonna sign nobody?! Nobody wants our "deadwood"? etc etc. The onset of depression rushing towards us?

20M for Mata, or 4M for Afellay, both appear to play in positions that I wouldnt say are where we desparately need is a no brainer imo, Afellay all day long, and concentrate on the strikers...

Other teams are closer to signing our supposed targets, still no striker, and no one wants our deadwood.

To be honest, that snapshot applies for the two previous windows too

Yup we're currently very much circling the drain today. Absolutely nothing good is going to happen, we're going to get relegated and frankly we may all as well just go and support Stevenage to save ourselves the pain.

Let's do it. Stevenage are the business!

We Are Stevenage! Super Stevenage... we are Stevenage from... wherever we play.

Nah. It just don't work!

I can't see why we are so desparate to get rid of players. Our "Deadwood" have all been good players and should be able to do us proud in many non premier league games (which hopefully there will be plenty of) we could easily play 60 games this season.
