I've got the impression from previous things he's said that dear Jamie doesn't know fully what goes on at the club, whether it's based on what daddy tells him or not. I would not take his pundit soundbites as gospel.

I always assumed he'd be pretty reliable if he's just relaying info straight from Harry's mouth though...maybe I'm being naive

Firstly, I am assuming there will be a right to buy.
Secondly, I'm still kinda hoping we will be getting the boy Leandro in and/or someone similar, and they will be capable of cutting the mustard if he is a one season wonder.
Yep. A second striker is a must, even if its and up and comer like Leandro.

Yes, but what I mean is, for instance, his father may have only said to him that Ruiz didn't have a great game and that was it. Jamie then puts a spin on it in front of the cameras that he doesn't think we'll sign him based on that commeny, when , in fact, the latter is just his own opinion.

Like I say, I don't think it should be treated as concrete evidence of Redknapp's scouting policy, or lack thereof.

Why does it perplex you? Because you can't figure out whether it's code for 'He's just what we want. We're in for him' or 'Nah, he's not up to snuff'. I can't either, but I don't think for a moment that this wasn't completely calculated. Harry's a master of talking a lot without actually saying anything.

It may well have been calculated, it may well not have been. I have absolutely no idea. I do think it was an odd thing to come out and say either way. What does it achieve? What could it possibly do to help us?

Absolutely. It's the fact that Jamie comes out and relays Harry's message of 'he was only alright, don't think he'll sign' that perplexes me. If he had a good game would that mean that we'd go for him? Doesn't seem like a logical way of conducting transfer business.

i think u need to chill..every man and his dog knew that harry was in twente tonight. fact that jamie says he did alright is not giving anything away is it in all seriosuness. its not going to affect any potential deal is it? fact club x might offer 20k more a week might though.. and thats what it boils down to.. money, nothing else.

Oh, FFS. Jamie doesn't even work for the club mate. It's nothing to get worked up over.

This might be my greatest post ever. Because Berglad just sent me this link from the man I consider the greatest football writer in the world.

http://soccernet.espn.go.com/columns/story/_/id/944258/you-can't-beat-the-system?cc=5901

I seriously didn't read that before posting. And Uli owes me a pint the next time I'm in Dortmund because I bet him they would win the title last year.

That was a fascinating read.

Let's think what connects those three. Could it be La Masia and the system they all learned as children (Xavi joined at age 11, Messi and Iniesta at age 12)?...a system that's evolution is worth a book on its own, but at it's most simplistic is a crossing of Michels totaalvoetbal via Cruyff with Lillo's positioning 1st philosophy via Pep. It would be folly to compare those three with any 3 players on the planet because the SYSTEM is the true star at Barcelona. Mourinho wins with whatever components he has because of THE SYSTEM (his based on the winning the battle at transition). Dortmund are successful because of the SYSTEM (based on Kloepp's dynamic high-pressing 4-1-1-3-1) and can lose Sahin without much of a blip. Villas-Boas and Solbakken will be fired because they know that they system trumps the players, but their bosses are inept and think the player are more important.

We spend the whole summer talking about who will join, when we should be talking about our system. We actually have one, believe it or not. As well we should considering we are built on the foundation of a philospher-general in Nicholson. The man was a genius in an era of geniuses such as Shankley, Revie and Busby. The fact is that everybody wants a 4-2-3-1 but Harry has a system, which is my name with pace on the wings to stretch play. It's adaptable to any two forward as long as they complement one another (which VDV made tricky as he's a fase 9 and none of our other forwards are the kind that works with such) . I don't know if you noticed, but its brilliant when it works. We need to apply the system to anybody linked, which some do with say Ade but few do with Diarra (he can't push back between the CB's). Nobody has done with Kaka because its probably not worth the effort. I think I see what Harry wants in Rossi, who might be brilliant as a false 10 off a false 9, but I can see it going tits up too. We spunk our load at inverted wingers, but it is folly and would be worthless under our system. People speak ill of Zomora, but he would work in the system. Every player should be filtered through this, yet we often just think of talent. Talent is secondary to system. An average team can win with superior tactics. A great team can lose without them

And this was indeed a very, very good post.

I'm kinda hoping for one more striker, now, who is good to go...and Leandro (now or in January, just the same).
What we need now is another striker who can play ahead of VDV, but also compliment Adebayor (assuming this is true), for when VDV is injured, or for tactical purposes when we want to go 4-4-2 to chase a game.
Pav as a super-sub - sorted:grin:

City must be pretty confident that we wont be troubling them or they wouldnt be strengthing us in the main area that we need.

In both games against them last season we dominated them in the midfield, the first game hart played well and some of our finishing was shit and the second game we controlled possession but just looked clueless in the final third, so they must know that with a good striker we will be in and around them or they are just so arrogant now that they are fucking blind.

Just seems abit crazy as this could come back to bite them in the arse, it will be interesting to see if they have put some clauses in the agreement in regards to recalling him or maybe we wouldnt agree to it.....

Be interesting to see how this develops over the next couple days.

Why would anyone have needed to e cryptic about adebayor when the world and his dog knew we were interested.I'm pretty sure Harry even mentioned him.

Redknapp senior was just talking to his son on the phone, he can say what he likes. Jamie should have kept his mouth shut, however. What his dad thinks of a player who Spurs are monitoring doesn't need to be in the public domain. A simple 'He didn't go into much detail' would've sufficed.

Id be excited about this. Im also usually quite upbeat and confident in POTL's ITK. But didnt he say Diarra was done last week too?

His record is still very good though. He's gone a bit further with this one saying we could get his name on the back of our shirts now
