I think our next manager is going to be Rodgers, the only basis for my opinion is Caulker - when we signed Nelsen in January there were rumbles of discontent from him "Another cb, lol... Summer" (something like that) but since Harry's been linked with the England job he seems to have changed his tune, saying stuff like he hopes to be featuring for us next season, maybe with knowledge of our next managerial appointment being the guy giving him PL games. This logic is probably heavily flawed and most likely has no basis in reality.

Logic...I see no method here

I wonder if we've looked at Van Gaal. Although I'm not sure about him and his relationship with his players, don't he always fall out with them.

Got a feeling Benitez will be in the running.

I've noticed Martinez likes finding players in Scotland. Maybe that's because Wigan can't afford to look elsewhere.

I think he would be quality here. Wigan sell most of their players in the summer and take 6 months or so to build another team but when they get going in the last few games of the season they play really well. I think he could do a great job in building a team for us.

Felix Magath would be an interesting name to the mix but I'd be extremely surprised if he was appointed.

They have done some useful player trading each summer, but that money's invariably been ploughed back into the squad: http://www.transferleague.co.uk/premiership-transfers/wigan-athletic-transfers.html

The one thing I like about Martinez is he has a philosophy and sticks to it, and he also manages to keep his team onside and motivated, but I don't think we've ever seen his philosophy consistently demonstrated on the football pitch, we've seen it in fits and spurts, but we've also seen some dire stuff from them too. He does have a track record, and to judge him you've got to look at the good and the bad, but of course put it all into the context of the kind of resources he's had available to him. Based on the above I think the biggest question mark must be over his method: exciting philosophy; patchy application.

Whilst on the subject of philosophy, I had a thought this morning about what in a very general sense separates the likes of Redknapp, Rodgers, Wenger and Martinez, from people like Allardyce, O'Neill, Lambert, and Moyes: the first group are primarily proactive; the second group are first reactive and second proactive. What separates Redknapp from Wenger, is that Redknapp doesn't have a coherent philosophy, nor does he have an effective method; I said elsewhere that he's a curator rather than a coach, he looks to benefit from the fruit of better coaches work, purchasing players he says have a good mentality, usually instilled by better coaches at their former clubs. After that, for Redknappo it's just a question of picking a team and leaving them to it - this is why he'd make a great national coach.

You may well be right.

I desperately believe the players we have need to play to a system that they believe in. This means when the going gets tough they continue to play in a way they know brings success. We are currently playing differently (slower) than we were earlier in the season and there is no system in place to change our style when teams play to stifle us.

Magath? Kicker Magazine said we were looking at him, but the guy is a complete strict nutcase, would be a disaster imo

I think going for an inexperienced manager like Rodgers or Martinez would lead us to having a transitional season next year and finishing 7/8th.

If he's bothered to learn English over the last 2 months then I'd go for capello. Can't argue with his club career and apart from the world cup (his first international tournament as an inexperienced international coach - often overlooked) he got results with what's a rather poor England team.

How can you say Martinez or Rodgers are inexperienced ?

They are both Premier League managers

I would much prefer going for a young up and coming dynamic manager who has distinct ideas than someone looking for a final bumper pay day

http://www.thesun.co.uk/sol/homepag...rtinez-shock-candidate-for-Tottenham-job.html

ROBERTO MARTINEZ is a shock candidate for the Tottenham job if Harry Redknapp is appointed England manager.

Wigan boss Martinez has impressed in his three years at the DW Stadium.
And he is edging his side to safety again this season.
Their cause was helped by a stunning 4-0 win over Newcastle yesterday.
Spurs like his passing style and see him as a huge prospect.
A Spurs insider said: “There is no doubt that Martinez is heading for the top and he has been impressive again this season.”
Brendan Rodgers’ rookie season in the Prem has also been noticed, and Everton boss David Moyes has been linked with the Spurs hotseat as well.
But Martinez is seen as the rising star.
