I agree. I like Friedel as he's been reliable and seems like he'd be a good character in the dressing room (something I think Harry was very good at developing at our club). However as you say, his age is only going to affect him at increasingly fast pace.

I think he'll hit a major brick wall in terms of form at some point soon and the last thing we can afford is for that to happen on say 1st Feb with no sensible back-up option for the rest of the season.

I have been on here long enough to know if POTL, JJ or Peanut say something it is very accurate.

You need to realise that some ITKs might not want to reveal information to early for fear that their cover is blown.

Yes JJ and Peanut are incredibly accurate.

Blue and yellow, blue and yellow, blue and fucking yellow.

POTL R.E Lloris;

Can confirm now in discussions regarding transfer, AVB believes he will be the #1 for years to come, buys into Daniel's philosophy of buying for now and the future as the player is only 25, and obviously Brad can't go on forever and Carlo as the #2 obviously is nearing the end of his career. Not much more to add at this stage.

POTL

As mentioned last night, from days gone by I still believe POTL when he/she says this type of stuff. No flowers, no word games - just good solid info on this one.

Also worth remembering that our style of play is likely to change dramatically, especially with the infamous high back line. That in turn will add extra demands on our keeper and perhaps require a different style of keeper.

That's what I thought.
With Charlie having gone and Rose likely to be let go (and not really up to standard IMO), if we let Naughton go then we need cover at both left and right fullback so it would seem a strange decision to me.
As for Smith, the highest level he's played at is in the Championship and even that was for only 3 games (according to Wikipedia). I'm not sure he's ready to suddenly cover both sides of our defence.

Spurs 1960 :

I don't say he is ready, merely that he is a better prospect. Huge huge difference.

Norwich are a lower mid table team, Tottenham are not so a player good enough for lower mid table supporters is not necessarily good enough for a top 4 side.

Smith is about 2.5 years younger than Naughton. Smith's playing style is more similar to Walker than Naughton (sheer speed - which might suit AVB) but maybe better than Walker on crossing ? Smith had a great season with Bournemouth (League 1 top 6) and I was expecting him to go on to a championship side but he went to MK Dons for half a season - he played in a televised cup game against QPR where commentators drooled over his crossing ('you won't see a better cross at any level') and certainly didn't look out of place against a lower Premiership side, getting up and down the right hand side with ease. He had 2 goals in MK Dons 'goal of the season' competition - not bad for a RB with half a season on loan.

Then had a move that looked good at the time to go to Championship Leeds, but unfortunately a change of manager who wanted to get rid of all loanees meant he only played a few games - but Leeds fans rated him in those games. Has also played a few England u 21 games.

Agreed Smith lacks experience - but think he would certainly walk into any Championship side, and likely perform well at any lower Premiership side. Would like to see him playing in pre-season and Europa League to see how he shapes up.

Smith also covers left back, but if Fryers is coming to Spurs, he would be an alternative (and longer term probably better to have a left footed LB).

Naughton is clearly an established Premiership class FB (after being on loan at Norwich), but maybe wouldn't be that happy being back up (so Naughton may be driving a move ?) - and possibly his valuation is highest now after the Norwich experience rather than after being a back up for a season. Also at 23 going on 24 Naughton may not improve as much as a 21 year old Smith.

Its possibly more risky to sell Naughton and rely on Smith/Fryers with cover from the likes of Vertonghen (as LB cover), but think Smith could prove to be at least as good as Naughton.

A great write up but you do assume we are going to play the Harry way in a 4-4-2 and not the AVB way in a 4-3-3.

With that system we don't necessarily need wingers, but strikers playing from left and right. If that is the case then Lennon may not even get in the side and back up for him wouldn't be required. Sturridge, who dislikes playing on the right apparently, could play the right side of an interchangable front 3 whether he likes it or not. Bale, Defoe and Ade can all score goals.

I'd expect VDV and Modric to go and Parker may be the one to start missing out if the midfield 3 are interchangable as defensive cover. That would bring Huddlestone and Sandro into the frame more, plus of course Livermore.

Hopefully next season we can encourage the defenders to pass the ball out, Caulker seems to have this ability (does Vertonghen too?), instead of someone standing beside them passing sideways to start a move.

No, I assumed Lennon would play as the wide right of a front three.

Don't know an awful lot about Lloris, but just watched a youtube compilation on him, obviously designed to highlight his best moments, and within the first minute and a half he'd flapped at one cross, palmed a shot straight into the path of one of the opposition players and come charging out of his box, and gone in feet first. He also made some excellent reflex saves. If you were looking for a direct replacement for Gomes, he looks your man.

Good to see that we are busy early in the transfer window. Get our 25 players sorted then get rid of the remainder. Then we cant be held to ransom with stupid transfer fees with the Modric dosh like with the Berba/Keane transfers. Bet when window closes we will have spent no more than 15-20 million!!

who the f*** is aqua? You presumably mean akqa? and as a completely separate point...why can't people read?

Not going to put a negative mark down, but there is really no need for that is there? A positive note from the poster and you lay into them? Was it meant as a joke that didn't sound funny?

Take it or leave it.

As many already know my source is my father in law who is a scout at Wigan Athletic. I have been told that we have expressed an interest in Victor Moses.

Different players

Gomes is a big girls blouse, a bruised toenail is a major crisis for him, he lacks the mentality and fight and confidence needed to be a top class goalkeeper in premiership

Lloris is a leader so to be a leader you have to be made of strong stuff

That's the point I made about Gomes yesterday, yes. In terms of their attributes and strengths and weaknesses, I'd say there are some similarities, however.

does anyone think Friedel might ask for a move if we sign Lloris or another top keeper? He might another season as a No 1 and continue that incredible consecutive premier league appearance record
