This could be a disaster. Friedel has done well to play until his 41. His reactions are going to slow down considerably any day now and if it is half way through the season we would be f*cked!

He is safe and steady and nothing more.

This is true. The problem with the age Friedel is at as well is that he could all of a sudden go rapidly downhill.

That's the point I made about Gomes yesterday, yes. In terms of their attributes and strengths and weaknesses, I'd say there are some similarities, however.

I think Gomes would have made a great keeper if he had a better mentality, some of his reactions to the slightest of knocks were cringeworthy and I think a lot of his gaffes were due to lack of confidence as opposed to anything else, a Gomes with a better mentality would be great

No, I assumed Lennon would play as the wide right of a front three.

For me he is not good enough in front of goal to play that role. If he can improve that side of his game, great, you would like to think Defoe may do a better job in that role alongside Ade and Bale.

There's no way Defoe is good enough at the rest of his game to play wide right in a 3 man attack.

A huge part of the 2 wide men's roles is to work back when the opposition have the ball. Lennon is surprisingly good at that. Though, yes, he's not the best in front of goal. He does have his moments but just not enough.

Very true, it's swings and roundabouts. Sturridge is not a happy defender either but played the role for AVB. Exciting times.

Agreed, also Defoe would probably do better coming in from the left than the right, as he likes to shift it inside onto his right foot and blast it.

Who isn't a risk?!
Obviously everyone is a risk.

But Lloris more than others: he's not very good at dealing with crosses, he makes good saves but gives up dangerous rebounds, and I'm not sure if he speaks English or not. For a GK that's huge because he relies on communication.

With AVB in charge we will have the majority of the possession in almost every game except against top 6 sides and Swansea. The other sides won't be really testing him (or Brad) often. when the sides look like scoring is with crosses and set pieces. They will rush the shit out of our goal. To make saves in situations like that seem like his weaknesses, to me.

BTW - what happened to that (Spanish ?) kid - a LB I'm sure - we got in and, I think, loaned out.

Wasn't he expected to be the bees knees ? Can't remember seeing him in the loanwatch thread and he's not in the BBC squad list

Berchiche (sp?) Think he went back to Spain on a permanent deal some time ago.

I wouldn't mind Moses in the squad if we are going with the 4-3-3 everyone is talking about, decent cover for Lennon and lots of potential.

He is young and has potential but 8 goals in 72 games for Wigan just doesn't do it for me, at best he would be suited to some sort of squad player or impact sub role but would he want to leave Wigan for our bench?

Don't see it tbh
