Jenas' high energy style could actually fit our system well.

The few times when he hasn't been absolute shite show a perfect CM for AVB's system.

When playing at or near his best I'd agree, but Jenas' biggest problem has always been inconsistency.

Agreed. Although it may suggest we have something very close and I mean on top of Ade who seems close to finalisation. I think we'll have Ade, a back up, Kane and a wide forward if possible. If we only play one up top then VDV and then Gylfi play as nominal back ups too. So that gives us 6 players for 2 positions say...
Well if Marseille are desperate to get rid of Remy then that would be perfect as we have back up and a RW

If we sell Defoe we only have GDS as a recognised striker*, and that's probably being generous. If we are letting him talk to another club we must have at least a couple of Strikers very close to coming in. Ade being one so who is the other?

*I know we have Kane but I'm not sure if he would be classed as a recognised striker yet.

I think if Reading are offering good money for Defoe we'd be fool not to take it. As decent as he was as an impact player last year, whenever he came on it usually meant us changing shape.

I think the key to success for AVB is having a a squad where each player can just slot into the 433 or 4231, and the shape and system stays the same.

He's not going to start under AVB, so we may as well move him on now. As history has shown, he isn't content to warm the bench. I would imagine, more so, under a manager he doesn't know. We'll be reading the Defoe quotes in January "I need to play at this stage in my career.", "I love it at Spurs, but I don't want to sit on the bench all season", then we'll have to move him on anyway.

He's been a loyal servant, been with us for years (albeit a season gap), and has scored a ton of goals for us - he's a qualified yiddo and deserves our respect - but it's time to let him go. 5m? No way. 10m for a proven English striker who guarantees goals? It's a myth that he has ever had pace, he's always been more of a fox in and around the box - he'll be firing them in until he's 33 at some level in the Prem. 10m for 4 years of goals... 10m is fair.

I'm excited to see who someone like AVB, with a uber intelligent knowledge of players in Europe brings in as a replacement. I trust his judgment.

if we letting go og defoe does that mean adebayor + one other is close?

You'd have to think so. Like the modric / moutinho situation. Defoe wouldn't fit into a 433 or playing up top on his own so regardless if he's a good player or not, if he doesn't suit our system then not much point keeping him plus reading have money so who better to take advantage of the nouveau riche then Levy

I don't think he'll be sold if we haven't got replacements lined up.

It seems a much more forward thinking window, this one!

I've got this strange feeling AVB would think GDS can fit into his system. AVB was brought up with Southern European football, which is exactly GDS's style. His performances for Mexico have been stunning at times. If AVB can help him adapt his game to the Premiership, and shows true belief and trust in him - it could be like a new signing! I've never given up on him. He had the odd UEFA game with our youth team under Harry, but was it ever a truly fair crack of the whip with the first team squad? If I'm wrong, I'm happy to eat my words. But I think it could be a lot different for him under AVB.

from Ali Z on COYS:

A friend of mine had an appointment with the guy who runs our new training ground.

His appointment was at 3pm he turned up a little early and was in the foyer waiting for his meeting, standing in the corner (no furniture yet).

Anyway, AVB was outside having pictures taken, as he walked back in, he walked across to my friend, shook his hand and with a warm smile asked my friend how he was, my friend was in complete shock, so failed to engage in conversation.

After a while my friends business appointment turned up and after 5 minutes talking business, they started talking Spurs. The guy is not a Spurs fan but has a lot of affection for us. he said -

AVB very disappointed that all the questions were about Chelsea and none about Spurs, the project and the future.

Everybody at the club loves him.

This is a reveloution and the training ground is just the start of it.

AVB will be backed heavily in the transfer market

Potential trouble makers will be pushed out

How many trouble makers would we even have. We obviously had a number of players that were unhappy under Harry due to playing time, but I don't remember any Chelsea level malcontents.

Just been nosing around in the Goats Gaff. There's some thats come to pass, some that ain't and some that looks like shite in hindsight. Not knocking any of the info or the sources of course but it is a reminder that salt should be liberally applied and that things can change very quickly.

Some of the Ade wage chat today was bordering on the hysterical. I mean if you really consider it there's only 5 real options:

A) The £150,000 a week figure is wrong.
B) The figure is correct but part of it is a lump sum signing on fee so it's not what he'll be getting every week in his pay packet.
C) The figure is correct, we've decided to up our wages and we have the investment to pay for it.
D) The figure is correct and City are paying some of it.
E) The figure is correct, we don't have investment but Levy's tired of being a tight arse and is gambling the lot on being Euro champions by 2014.

Now I think E might be wrong - just a wild guess you understand - and I think C is probably unlikely as is D. So that leaves A and B to my mind.

But whether I'm right or wrong I think nearly all would agree that, fiscally at least, Levy runs a very tight ship and is an excellent chairman. So any hand wringing over this by people basically means that Levy can no longer be trusted to properly manage our finances and he's potentially jepordising us and our future.

Considering everything that's gone before does anyone really believe that?
