January is an epically bad time to buy.
Liverpool in for Sturbridge is about as major as it gets, maybe with Chelsea for Ba.

But you rarely see something properly major as selling clubs just can't get the reinforcements they need and prices are high as a result.

Zaha for 15m for example, I mean WTF?!

Honestly i think AVB will see this season out and wait for the summer.

After watching bits and pieces of Hooper I think he does one thing really well and that is put the ball in the back of the net, which is the primary thing AVB seems to want his strikers to do. Whereas after watching a fair bit of Negredo I think he is just average at everything. In my opinion he is a decent finisher, his movement is fair but not great, his hold up play is decent but not top notch, just everything about him is fairly average.

Negredo is on another planet to Hooper mate.

Indeed, to all the yids out there who haven't seen Negredo play but are getting excited about signing an exotic-sounding foreign striker, $hoguN is bang on the money. He is just so very meh

And that's a lot of meh for £12m

I would rather we didn't panic and waited until the summer; I'm definitely not in the "I want a striker now, just for the sake of it" camp. I'd rather we save the money and spend it on some rather more mobile striker at a later date

Its about buying a specific type to fit with the way you're playing though - if AVB fancies Hooper I'll back his judgement for sure. Not saying Negredo wouldn't be that player necessarily...lets see what comes of it.

well if we're buying meh, surely we want lots for the cash - or if we're in double negatives already we want less meh for less money..? I'm confused.

I disagree, whilst it is a bad time to buy for the likes of United (due to players being cup-tied in CL, inflated prices ect ect), it is the perfect time for us to strike, whilst the other 'big clubs' are sleeping.

What happened to the Hudd out links & is Livermore definitely staying even if we buy?
Have we found a more remote club for Bentley, say: FC Ulaanbataar? (Mongolian champions 2011) or Erchim? (2012, they have a Brazilian). Partnership deal? New horizons? What's not to like?

Weird though with the outs. The Falque out just appeared out of nowhere & the rest has just gone quiet.

That's why i'm happy with the new Goat ITK and convinced stuff is going on, cos when things have happened this window it's been quick and hush hush. We all knew about Fryers from the summer yet the announcement came with nearly no ITK this window. Similarly the Holtby deal was quiet, then suddenly we'd signed him in a couple of days and only the legendary Olderyid ITK blew the roof off that one. Then Falque out, with a FIVE MINUTE warning from Archibald?

That's tightening up, alright.

jj said it would be a quiet window in fairness to him.

I don't think it's gonna be quiet come the end.
I just think the loose lips have been zipped.

Despite this, even if we just signed Holtby it would be a massive advance on Nelsen/Saha or Gudjohnsen.

It's also straight forward to pick up Brazilians/Argies cos of the way their work permit system works. An untried 18/19/20 year old from South America wouldn't get a work permit to move to Spurs - that's generally why we and other teams then have to try and take them from the likes of Porto, Benfica
I'm thinking we could do with a little partnership club in Portugal.

Negredo is on another planet to Hooper mate.

As an overall package he is undoubtedly a better player. However, Hooper has a better knack of finishing chances and if that what AVB is placing a premium on, Hooper would be the better signing imo.

A team should be better than the sum of it's parts. It is the reason why Barca have been unreal for years and the star studded Madrid teams of the past have never put together prolonged years of dominance.

Well at least another milestone was reached today.

I think someone saying that They were jealous of Newcastles transfers reaches a new level of ridiculousness.

Well done the ITK thread.
