POSITIVE NEWS ROUNDUP:

1. I will never have to see the word 'Bentekkers' or 'Tekkers' on this board ever again! Yay!
2. That's it.

Disappointingly, for me at least, there's a Jason Burt Benteke article out in which he says:

Spurs turned to the 22-year-old [Benteke]after deciding against signing David Villa [ WTF??], who has moved to Atlético Madrid, and still remain in the market for a top-class striker this summer with Emmanuel Adebayor expected to leave.

I don't 'expect Adebayor to leave' :(
Good to see we 'decided against' David Villa though

Is that from Burt?

Frigging hell. We must be trying to get rid of Abebayor then.

Gutted not to have signed him, but good to see someone not agitating for a move and refusing to train etc etc. which is seen nowadays. Guess he won't be branded a twat after all.

I don't think we show enough desire for a player when negotiations are protracted beyond what's reasonable. It's all very well showing interest, but unless we're prepared to put our money where our mouths then it's essentially just a big show for the audience. Losing a player to a bigger club with CL qualification is one thing but losing out to a player's current club with a great deal less going for it than ours is a bit embarrassing in all honesty.

I too was at the game tonight, sitting in the North stand with the Spurs fans and I for one heard no booing for Ade. There was a collective groan as he missed his open goal but on the whole I thought he tried hard and as Chaching said earlier once tracked back and won the ball after initially loosing it.

The game itself was played at pedestrian pace but on a plus side Townsend looked the liveliest and looked to take the game to Colchester whenever possible. Going back to Ade I think it was Coulthirst who looked ok but actually missed the games two easiest chances.

So another striker target is crossed off the list.... not sure which (if any) ITK to believe but IF Benteke was a target for us and we missed the window of opportunity to get him then Levy really needs to look at himself. Whilst 25m is certainly overpriced, many believe a top striker is the difference between us finishing top 4 and not, where that extra money would have been made up in no time.

At the start of the window there was a fairly long list of possible striker targets for us, which doesnt often happen. But one by one they are being crossed off, to the point now there are only a few left;

Aubameyang
M.Gomez
Bony
Negredo
D.Villa
Cardozo
Benteke

Cisse
Soldado
Michu
Remy
Damaio
Higuain
Suarez
Rooney
Dzeko
Michy Bashuayi
Philipp Hosiner
Luc Castaignos
Rodrigo
Mattia Destro

I know people are starting to lose hope (just like me) because they are trying to convince themselves that Ade is the answer!

amended the list to reflect a few more available class strikers .....of course some wont come to us BUT they will be snapped up leaving us as the preferred destination, as those higher up the food chain have first pick!

What a complete farce.

I knew about the Chadli bit but thought the Benteke visit wasn't confirmed

There was talk that Chadli and "someone who we cannot afford" was shown around. Loads of discussions and finally everyone arrived at the name of Benteke.

Ha, having been a lurker for sometime does have its advantages!

Would there be any chance of Higuain if we agreed to sell Bale to them next summer?

Just maybe, given the interest from United, there was a development here mid Benteke negotiations.

I know it sounds ridiculous but I think something odd happened. Don't believe it was just Benteke and his agent engineering a new deal - there was already one put together by Villa. Of course we baulked at the valuation but if we were negotiating we must of thought there was a chance of doing a deal. The noises were confident ones...and JJ I respect more than any other when it comes to ITK (bar maybe Archie)

...or Andre wants rid of him.
Which is odd since he picked him religiously over Defoe last year.
I guess, unlike many of us here, Andre retains hope that a striker will be bought :LOL::eek::(;)

There are an absolute f*ckload. Comments like that are madness, sheer madness. Not having a go, just helping you out. They might not be a SUPERSTAR, but how many of those could we have legitimately claimed could have come at the end of last season or one-two-three years before that. We don't pay £150k+ a week, so that "quality/calibre/level" of striker is beyond us and has always been.
"There are an absolute f*ckload". Well if they're so fucking prevalent, then surely its an even bigger indictment of Levy's conservatism/retiscence/incompetence(delete as applicable) that we haven't signed a fucker! Can't believe people continue to defend the indefensible. This is exactly the type of failure that saw Comolli universally slated and ultimately dispensed with. I don't remember anyone making excuses for his inability to get certain would-be transfers over the line.
