Pretty irrelevant with Bentley, Gallas, Caulker (minor), Dempsey, Bale, BAE and probably Adebayor all off the books.

Parker, too. Wouldn't be surprised if Capoue (Hudd), Paulinho (Parker), Chadli (Dempsey) and Soldado (Ade) didn't individually all come at a discount in wage terms, and as a group a big one.

WTF is going on tonight!? All recent ITK has pointed to Lamela, and we know Baldini is a huge fan and he would be a fantastic replacement for Bale when he goes, then all of a suddenly we are in for Willian who is coming in to London tomorrow and maybe even Eriksen... This makes no sense. Coentrao I think will def come as we will prob just use the rest of the money RM owe us for Modric on him, the Hallilovic deal will prob be very small amounts spread over a long time as he is not coming for a year.... But that still leaves Willian, Lamela and Eriksen. Two things come to mind, ether A) we are so desperate for more creativity we are just throwing money at players we like in hope we get one, much like our attempt to get Aguero and Rossi many a moon ago... Or B) we are selling Bale.... At least they are all very exciting players. I am hoping for Lamela most I think.

Was the highlighted part from an ITK? Or did you just pick it up from a jorno of some sort?

Article saying we've bid for Eriksen, and there's a meltdown in the Willian thread on here and on RAWK/twitter from Liverpool fans. Being heavily reported we're set to hijack their deal for Willian.

EDIT: And Storts posted a cryptic in Willian and Daily ITK threads.

A jorno I think mentioned that he was coming to this country tomorrow. It's in the Willian thread somewhere. I am just quite surprised by this sudden movement when it seemed like we have been in talks with Roma about Lamela and ITK was suggesting it was looking likely.

Yes, I am too. I read earlier that Lamela and his dad may be playing the system to get a raise (not in a dissimilar fashion to a certain Mr. Benteke earlier this summer). :(
TBH, I would be equally elated to have either Lam or Will join our team. There are pros/cons to having either (depending on the tactics, shapes, formations, etc).
The fact remains though - either one of these guys will be an instant upgrade to our attacking core (and a huge boost to our top 3 challenge).

I know what you mean about Benteke but I found it quite interesting that when Garcia was asked about the possible transfers of Osvaldo, Pjanic and Lamela he said “We will be stronger if we keep the current squad, but we’ll have to wait and see with regards to the future.” Obviously now Osvaldo has gone but he didn't say anything about Lamela not being for sale which I found quite surprising.

There is a newspaper article on here somewhere stating that they may sell Lamela as they want to keep the clubs spending in the black.

I think there was some ITK, maybe the jorno, saying the same sort of thing. That they wanted to sell Lamela this summer and he had been offered to us and the Arss... Still want him a bit more then Willian. No doubt ITK will be flowing over the next few days. If we are in for both then we know Bale has gone.

Roma's president(?) did state that everyone is for sale if a good offer comes in. I think they stick by this and they would be interested in a sale if we offer a high amount. The problem is Lamela's father pushing for a new contract, although at the end of the day it is Erik's decision. If he decides he is interested in joining us, I'm pretty confident it will go through. At the moment, it looks unlikely though, especially with this news of Willian interest. Unless we are going for both like someone said and Bale is off.

IMO it's extremely unlikely we're in for both (regardless of the Bale situation). I simply can't see us spending even more cash than City has spent in 2010 (which was their transfer record IIRC), and that's before we get an LB (not even mentioning a CB or a backup striker).

So why is everyone now so super confident we will get willian?

Yeah tbh I don't get it. All the journos still say LFC are strong favorites. Ben Smith even said LFC would pay bigger wages, which is pretty much the biggest thing that matters.

i feel if we sign Willian & keep Bale or sign Lamela and Sell Bale we will genuinely challenge for more than just the top 4.
If we get neither or 1 & sell Bale then we will be around 4-6th this season.
Can we finally be genuine Title contenders for the 1st time since 1987? or will we be happy to challenge for Arsenals favourite trophy the 4th place one?
I really hope this is the summer we go for it as our motto says "To Dare is to do" so come on buys Lets fucking do it!

Levy is not that man how will sign a player with 100k+ in wages. And if I would be in his boot I would think the same way, If u have players with that high wages u trap yourself when it`s time to sell them. Non wants buy a player with that kind of wages and then u are F***ed. Just look at Bentley he could just sit that contract out and we could not do anything. I rather see us buying players like Paulinho - Capoue that have 40-60k wages, then (IF) u sell them it will be easy and the club will profit on it. So i would say the wages have a bigger role than the buying free.

For example if Bale would have 150k here in Spurs. then we go out and buy a player that is just a step below him. Lets say Soldado, then it make it difficult because Soldados agent looks what bale have and expect someting similar maby insted of the 80k we have now, we would need to give him 120k. Thats why it`s so important to hold the wages down.

gary jacobs from the times says otherwise though. also said tony barrett is running with the story in tomorrow (today's) paper, and they're one of the most reliable around

Bentley was on 40-60k.

Sure we can hope, but....

We will not go from 5th to 1st in one year, especially if we loose bale. Even with him we don't have the winning culture and experience. Signing a lot of new players doesn't automatically give you success either. It's just not realistic to talk about winning the league

This. The players need time to bed in too... City learned that

We've got a lot of games to play though, with the EL, League Cup and FA Cup. I think Andre may well use the early games in those competitions for blooding in new signings and fielding a more PL experienced team in the league games.
