One thing,

didn't he say he didn't want to leave Ajax for a club not in the UCL?? Ajax have accepted our offer but will he? suppose it depends how convincing Baldini/AVB are and if he feels he isn't going to get a better offer anytime soon

I think if we hadn't been given some encouragement we wouldn't be bidding. I've got a feeling that you would usually put out the feelers first with agents etc. otherwise you could waste a lot of time negotiating with a club just to be told the player said no.

I'm so fickle I've gone from being underwhelmed by him this morning to wanting him in badly.

Some decisive factors - cheap, young, versatile and will give us an attribute we are craving

I wonder if Dembele could play on the left. He played there a couple of times last season due to injury, but it could be a possibility.
i think he could be awesome on the wings. that little shift he does to create space could be used to get a cross in instead of playing a square 5 yrder to the LB as he does to almost every time.

He'd be given the freedom to cause havoc without the defensive responsibilities of CM and without the creative responsibilities of CAM. He was great on the wing at annfield last season

I'm kinda hoping, perhaps naively, that they'll both be in the team - Holtby, Eriksen and Lamela behind Soldado. Then some combination of the beasts behind them

Teams have shown that playing multiple "natural #10s" in a 3 behind the striker can work. I'd argue Holtby even did it with Draxler at Schalke.

Yep that was the game I was thinking of. It would give us more options as well if we needed him to drop deeper at any point.

not much pace but extremely creative, no doubt soldado would have so many chances he wouldn't know what to do with them :)

Lufti, my Teutonic friend, I don't think that's being naive at all. I have high hopes for young Lewis this season and I think we could see a rather energetic, skillful and explosive attack with those 3 behind Soldado. Lots of options for AVB this year, it's looking very bright indeed!

Right.

Saw Eriksen in the Euros last summer and was not hugely impressed. Didn't really watch too much of Ajax in the Champs League either, but having just watched his link up play and creativity on a few youtube videos I am SOLD! He glides across the pitch and is more mobile than I remember for Denmark but I now think the guy was hampered with the types of players he had to play with in the national team. He'd suite us down to the ground - plus Bergkamp raves about him and he can surely judge a player?!?!

Eriksen in for £9m and Sig out on loan or for 7/8m would be great business.

Come on guys, calm down, he is not ours yet- I am much more confident now with recent reports tonight from Telegraph and Guardian but we all know that if a CL team comes in, we are screwed.

I love the fact that I've completely moved on from Bale that I don't even bother going into his thread anymore.

I do like Eriksen and I think he still has things to work on in his game in order to be a bigger part of matches consistently. He's fully capable of absolutely dominating a game to the point where there's no way to account for him. He's got enough pace to run at and beat his man, he's got great vision, his dribbling is usually spot on and he knows how to catch defenders napping.

He comes from a system where he is used to the 4-3-3. He played as the LCM and functioning as the attack-first midfielder. I'd actually like to see him in the hole, playing central with two beasts in behind him like Paulinho/Dembele and Sandro/Capoue. I think it's maybe a bit more likely to see him paired with a Dembele/Paulinho while Sandro/Capoue sit deep protecting the defense. To me, that's a fantastic combination of talents that can go a long way in providing him that protection he might need as he gets used to the EPL.

It feels like he's been around so long which is why when I hear him being only 21 it always seems so funny to me. But, when you think about that, he's the same age as Tom Carroll. He's a year younger than Holtby. And, if he were to come into the side he and Lamela would be our youngest players. When you think about us potentially having a few seasons of Eriksen/Lamela building a rapport together, it could turn out to be incredibly fun to watch.

To be fair though, Draxler started off as a winger and has since been turning into a 10, pretty much because he's hands down our best player. I definitely agree though that 3 tens can all work together (or it can be a disaster). It's not as if any of em are exactly slow, and if they manage to gel and start interchanging passes and predicting each others movement it'll just be magical
