What are you on about. Last season Dembele built a partnership with Sandro and then had to have Parker behind him with Bale in front. This season he's playing in a different position (which I think is only temporary) and has two new faces behind him he has to try and work with. Sandro isn't quite ready to start yet so what other alternative would you propose apart from Capoue. In case you hadn't noticed we need an enforcer to protect the back line and presently only Capoue and Sandro fit that profile.I also trust the man but in the first three games of the season, I have not seen an ounce of forward thinking momentum from Dembele, when Capoue and Paulinho have been in the side.
I can only point the finger at him as that is how AVB keeps setting up the side.
We needed Holtby out there today as he would have gave us a much needed edge in the final third. I mean, how many attempted through balls or forward thinking balls did you actually see from the three central midfielders?
If we weren't going to do it through the middle, we had to do it out wide yet both Towsend and Chadli spent almost the whole game coming inside.
He set us up to try and not lose, rather than try and win.
Yes Holtby coming on would have been much appreciated but I ask you this: Would you start a player who's just coming back from injury and has barely had any serious game time? Not forgetting that the injury to Capoue didn't help either because we had no option but to replace him with Sandro. Defoe coming on was not a bad idea if he and Holtby had been brought on but as the injury occurred after, it doesn't take a brain surgeon to realize that Capoue's injury threw a major spanner in the works.
Townsend and Chadli are inverted wingers. Their job IS to cut inside. That's why we have wingbacks to go forward and supply the crosses while our DM tracks back to bolster the defensive line. The issues you're raising makes me think you don't quite understand our style of play yet.
