"against a team considered one of the best passing teams in European (if not world) football"

Did you just say that with a straight face?

No one thinks that

I have no worries going forward but today we were insipid. Of course lets all look to tomorrow but lets not pretend we were anything but sun-standard today

So i just imagined them being called the English Barca (or Barca lite) for god knows how many years?

Arsenal have been passing most teams off the park for almost 20 years.

And come on. We were at least Daily Express standard. ;)

I really don't understand that Defoe sub. The team was crying out for a creative force like Holtby or Gylfi. Defoe added nothing to the team it was really a pointless sub.

AVB likes to throw somebody who can get a foot in and score from a chaos. He used to get Dempsey in almost every game last year.

Only two of Dembele, Sandro, Capoue or Paulinho should ever play in midfield together as they all lack creativity. The third needs to be Ericsson, or Holtby as it seems we are incapable of producing anything incisive from that area.

Come on then, tell me what Chaldi brings to the team. What did he do today?
Whoever disagree's, instead of mindless ratings, how about some words?

Agree he didn't play well today I thought a lot if our new signings struggled today mainly first half like capoue who was woeful early on but by the time of his injury was imposing himself on the game.
I'm not sure what chadlis best position is yet but it's only three games in so I will wait a while to make a judgement call on him.
We could do with ade or someone like ade in the team today as I thought we played into their hands.

Chadli has some great touches and link up, but the football we are playing is so damn slow it just doesn't pay off.

He had a quite game, not really making anything, and left rose exposed a couple of times.

Rose shouldn't be further than Chadli for the majority of the match.

I thought he would have been subbed rather than Townsend.

I can't believe how poor we are when we have a corner of free kick in a wide position in the attacking third. We have been for several seasons now and I just don't get what is so difficult about putting a ball into a set area and your tall timber attack it.

Some points I'd like to make.

1. Crosses are meant to beat the first man.
2. When cutting inside you have more options than just trying a potshot.
3. Full backs should never and mean never try a 30 yarder with the outside of the boot.
4. Lloris is truly a world class keeper.
5. Positionally for the goal the whole defense was all over the place.
6. It's going to take time for all the new players to bed in, it's not FIFA or FM where you just get the best and it all gels perfectly.
7. Still think too many of our players lack football intelligence (made worse by bedding in new players.)
8. Feel sorry for Soldado with the complete lack of service we are currently offering him.

Think it's more that people disagree you can make that kind of judgement against a new player after just 3 league games. The EPL is faster, the NLD is a cauldron and he's learning to play with new team mates. He wasn't the greatest today but I've seen enough of him to make me think he'll be a good player for us.
As for the disagree ratings (think I might've been 1 of them), I know it's frustrating as it neg-reps you and people don't back it up with a reason (hence this post) but in a match thread it moves on so fast that it's easier and quicker to mark agree or disagree than to write a full response.

What did he say? :)

That, if I was a Tottenham fan I wouldn't be worried about today. Having watched the game (admittedly after a few bevvies) it's the least disappointed i've been after a NLD defeat in recent history; early in the season, still equal on points and we genuinely do have a squad to be wary of.

We won't win nothing under avb bale made him look soooo good last season and now we are going to see how much of a tactical dunce he really is.

Dembele played as a SS for more than 60 minutes lmao

Dembele Second striker

Holtby didn't even come on, we could all see we lacked creative spark apart from avb, so then he throws on Defoe lmao

Are u a gooner in disguise??

I think if we'd have played at pace today it would have gone a long way to subverting the fact that we haven't gelled.

Alltight, i have calmed down now and no longer as pissed off.

3 "enforcers" in midfield is not the way forward. We need to revert back to a 4-2-3-1 with sandro/capoue and dembele/paulinho as our holding to midfielders with holtby/eriksen in the hole for added creativity.

Lamela must start, and we need a premium lwf with chadli as backup. Our rb and lb have a terrible end end product, and they need to be drilled hard at training.

Soldado

New lfw - eriksen - lamela

Paulinho - sandro

Rose - verts - kaboul - walker

Lloris

This is the way forward, and Daws not good enough. Hopefully our fullbacks improve their end product, they are still young so wont slate em to much.

Agree.

If we don't sign a LWF then it has to be Townsend, Lennon or Eriksen (Holtby in the middle). Think Paulinho, Holtby, Eriksen, Lamela and Soldado would link very well and we'd have some great quick, fluid and creative attacking play. The players are there but currently aren't being deployed properly.

If you don't know why it's not worth explaining. It's about control, chance development and movement. We got chances in the final 10 minutes once Arsenal brought on 1 then 2 extra defenders and sat back, between Defoe coming on and Arsenal sitting back the game was played out round the half way line with the odd pointless long ball or shit cross to nobody.

Oh my

I suppose it depends on what your idea of football is.

If it's aimlessly running down the line (or "taking your fullback on") just to aimlessly boot the ball into an area, then no he brought nothing to the game today.

If it's about creating chances through moving people around and looking for openings before deciding what to do and if none are available keeping possession, he did that today. and in every game so far

A couple of flicks and spins created great openings down the left and but for some poor play from Rose at the end, could have created a goal.

With better players inside him he will be a player for us.

His touch let him down as the game wore on, but i have seen nothing to suggest he will not be an effective AM.

why should Paulinho start ahead of Dembele in a deep midfielder role. I thought that Dembele was one of our best players last season. I don't think that has changed ( if he plays in deep midfield).

The player who disappointed me most today was Paulinho. No urgency at all and continually passed sideways or backwards. I've seen him play enough for Brazil to know he has more in his locker. Arsenal's lightweight midfield needed to be ran at. It's so frustrating watching him ignore opportunities to run with the ball or pass forwards only for him to bottle it and give the ball back to Dawson to aimlessly hoof upfield. He seemed scared to lose possession.

Can't understand the decision to bring on Defoe or to take off Townsend instead of Chadli. Lamela looked promising and should have been on sooner. Dembele seems to have lost all confidence and we missed Kaboul badly. AVB didn't get his tactics right. Lloris was our best player.

Early days yet. This squad will need to gel so no need to press the panic button but it's annoying because this was a game we clearly could have won if we had been a bit braver.
