Think the last thing wee Lamela needs is those big neaderthals kicking shit out of him for a good 60 mins. Sub again, when he learns how to keep possession, then he'll warrant a start. Far too laid back against Anzi, some terribly lax passing.

I reckon we'll see a more or less unchanged team from the Chelsea game. Would've liked to see Holtby and Eriksen getting some game time together, as Holtby clearly is the one of the "understudys" that has deserved a starting spot the most. Would imagine that those two could provide needed creativity against a lumbering and bus parking West Ham.

Hopefully Rose will be back as well, the left side needs an overlapping fullback.

I'm surprised Sandro isn't in any or few teams. I don't get the "ain't broke" argument. We drew with Chelsea and but for the red card could well have lost. We need more steel in the midfield.

We need natural width in the team, which Townsend can supply (although its clear sometimes AVB has told him to keep cutting inside) with Walker so rght hand side cannot easily be 'doubled up on'. Without Rose, its difficult to do the same on the left hand side - especially with Sigursson at wide left who I wouldn't want to drop on current goal scoring form even though I would prefer Chadli there (provides some width although not super fast).

With the AM's we have, startiong with Townsend, Erikssen and Sigurdssen, its easy to bring in one or motre of Holby, Lamela or Chadli as subs if we need to change things.

I agree that we need width at times but that should come from the full backs, and with West Ham sure to try and shut up shop I think we need as many intricate players as possible behind Soldado.

I actually think it would be a good game to play Lamela, but Siggy can't be dropped on current form.

I don't think it'll be a game where much 'steel' is required. West Ham will park the bus so we need as many angles of attack as possible. That's why I'd go with Dembele and Paulinho.

Possibly but they are hardly complete no hopers, they're a decent prem side.

I don't think it's a defensive ploy to play Sandro, he wins the ball back and can start attacks quickly and let the ball players like Paulinho, Dembele and others get forward.

We need more steel in midfield against Chelsea/City, not West Ham

But didn't we play Sandro in most games when fit last year? Don't most teams, even your Barcas and Madrids, play with a defensive midfielder irrespective of opposition?

I don't think they are no-hopers but we all know what to expect. They'll stick 10 behind the ball and launch the ball long every chance they get. I don't think a ball-winning midfielder is going to be top of our requirements.

Agree with you generally though. Always good to have a Sandro/Capoue in the team and certainly wouldn't be disappointed to see him starting.

This is one of those games where I think we'd still have enough by resting a couple. Unfortunately with Rose, Kaboul, Capoue, Lennon, Adebayor etc all out, we can't do it so much.

Lloris

Walker
Dawson
Chiriches
Naughton

Sandro
Holtby

Townsend
Eriksen
Chadli

Soldado

Picked Holtby as he deserves another go and this is a game that we'll spend predominantly in their 3rd of the field. Sandro to sit back, rest Dembele and Paulinho and we should still be fluent going forward. Dembele played last weekend and last night. I'd rest Sigurdsson and give Chadli the start to work his fitness back. I'd be very tempted to pick Lamela as well and the only reason I haven't picked Defoe is because Soldado needs a goal or two. Also, left Vertonghen out to allow Chiriches a PL debut against a very inferior opposite at WHL.

Would like to see Holtby in the team, probably in place of Townsend (with either Holtby or Eriksen nominally playing as a wide forward).

I don't think Siggy should be in the team long term ahead of Chadli and Lamela, but don't think he can be dropped on current goalscoring form.

Townsend has been one of our players of the season and you want Holtby in for him?

West Ham aren't Chelsea?

To start with, I'm not sure he has been really.

Secondly, even if he has been great this season, you have to pick the right players for the right game and if West Ham sit back then I'm not sure how much Townsends pace is really going to help us.

Lloris
Walker Dawson Verts Naughton
Dembele Paulinho
Townsend Eriksen Sig
Soldado

I think this is how he will line them up.
Until we have more width and creativity on the left I think Soldado will
continue to struggle for goals.

I would love us to try out some of our new players such as Vlad and Lamela from the start against West Ham. Although Lamela was off the pace in Russia and Vlad has been a bit shaky at times i really think both players would greatly benefit from first team starts in the PL and West Ham at home in their current form would be a good match up. I would also be interested to see how Soldado fairs alongside a more orthodox winger as well as an inverted one. I am sure however AVB will most likely start the same team as last week.

Is Rose definitely out? I want to see Lamela begin to start some Prem games for us, but I don't think Townsend should be dropped after his performance against the chavs. I know starting Sandro, Paulinho, and Dembele looks a bit negative, but I actually think having Sandro there to protect the back four would free up Paulinho and Dembele to contribute more to our attacking play, which they're both obviously extremely good at doing.

I think this is naive as we will still need the strength and athleticism at least one of these players to help us defend set pieces.

I think the team will be Lloris, Walker, Dawson, Vertonghen, Rose, Dembele, Paulinho, Townsend, Eriksen, Sigurdsson, Soldado.

Although if it was my choice, I would go with:

Lloris
Walker Dawson Vertonghen Rose
Sandro Paulinho
Eriksen Holtby Townsend
Soldado
This is obviously really harsh on Dembele who has been excellent, but I am constantly fearful that we are going to overplay him and he will start picking up niggling injuries again. Also it is very harsh on Siggy who keeps getting goals, but I think we need to get a little bit more creativity into the side to create more opportunities for Soldado in games like this.
