Are my eyes deceiving me, or has Andros Townsend not scored or assisted on a goal in league games in his last 950 minutes of play (setting aside the penalty given against CP)? We need goals in EPL games from him if he's going to be a permanent fixture up front, so his record of 2 goals on approximately 57 shots in his last 17 league games in 2013 isn't going to cut it.

Completing dribbles and winning fouls is very nice, but I hope he starts to deliver end product.

AVB said Rose had a 90% chance of playing vs Chelsea.

He was either bullshitting or there's been a setback and he was being truthful, I don't know.

Maybe give him a game on the left. Get him out of the habit of blasting at goal at every opportunity, although his last game was much much better on that front tbf to him.

Although it's quite a negative way of looking at things, a player that wins fouls can be incredibly useful. Unfortunately, we're crap at set pieces. I thought his first half against Chelsea was a step up, showed more team work and actually passed the ball instead of shooting at times. If he does this more often and learns when to shoot and when to pass then he'll be a very valuable asset.

There's no question his first half performance against Chelsea was his best yet. He created a legitimate chance for Paulinho, and it seems to me as if someone had a chat with him about tempering his shooting. I agree, though; play him on the left for a league game with Lamela on the right to see if that can get Soldado some more chances at goal in open play.

If we want to get the best out of Soldado then we might need to change the system to a 4-4-1-1,we need wingers getting to the byeline and getting balls into the box.
Soldado is not the kind of striker who creates goals for himself or scores from outside the box.
Looking at the type of goals we have scored under AVB they have been predominantly scored from outside the 18 yard box from the likes of Bale and Defoe.
Soldado ain't that type of striker and if he is going to be successful we need wingers feeding him with low crosses into the box and a playmaker like Eriksen sitting behind him and playing short passes into the box for him.

Townsend on the left, Lennon on the right would be the most suitable system to feed Soldado but that's not the philosophy or system we're aiming for.

Quite. Until the FBs adapt properly or ones can be brought in that can, a little compromise wouldn't be a bad thing and AVB is a very pragmatic sumbitch.

Not too much of an issue in most games of course so just details really at this point. The lack of width in our play is most certainly not by design in this system going forward though.

If we've got Rose back then Erikson on the left, Holtby in the middle, Lamela to get a start on the right. West Ham will be chasing shadows all game and we should be able to cut them up with that quality of passing. On 70 minutes bring on Lennon, Defoe and Townsend to run them completely ragged

A win tomorrow would set us up nicely going into the break.
We've had a few underperforming players of late. Soldado has never got going. Lamela obviously still finding his feet. Naughton continues to be hopeless. Dembele has improved recently but should be offering more.
With Rose, Lennon, Kaboul and Capoue coming back into contention after the break, we'll have a bit more flexibility in changing the system and personnel we use in league games. Naughton will be out, Townsend will have serious competition from Lamela & Lennon. Soldado will have 2 weeks off (not in Spain Squad) to help him settle a bit more. a win tomorrow puts us in a good place for when the league resumes.

For me tomorrow, based on available players:

Lloris
Walker Dawson Vertonghen Naughton
Paulinho Dembele
Townsend Eriksen Sigurdsson
Soldado

(we all know AVB though bought players to play 433, but based on injuries and form hasnt been afforded that luxury yet. I'd love to see:
Lloris
Walker Kaboul Vertonghen Rose
Paulinho Sandro Eriksen
Lamela Soldado AN Other (Lennon/Townsend/Chadli/Sigurdsson)

ideally would like to win by 3 clear goals so we go into another long break in 2nd place (assuming Arsenal bend Brom over)

We are due to give somebody a right beating at the lane, just hope it's tomorrow

If we can get a goal early on I think we might, otherwise I'm afraid it might be another nervy 1-0 with about 20 squandered chances lol.

The problem is that if our £26m striker doesn't start getting chances to score in open play then it is seriously going to affect his confidence and that won't help anyone, including the manager.
Its all lovey dovey at the moment but if results start going poorly the owners are not going to be impressed with the managers signings if he has spent loads of money on a striker who can't score and a wonder kid who can't get into the team.

Yep I too would like to see a winger played on his normal side, at least once sometime very soon. Townsend or Lennon. We need to know if it'll get Soldado in the goals

Give Moose a rest. Give Sandro a start alongside Pauli. Eriksen in front of them you'd think considering Holtby started on Thurs. I'd just like see a winger play as a winger and not inverted for this game. Give Bobby a chance of getting on the end of a couple of crosses at least.

Our FBs needs nudging along too. Time for them, at least Walker anyway until Rose is back, to actually become an attacking threat.

I think those two problems are related. If our full backs were a legitimate threat then we wouldn't need to alter our inverted wingers into more traditional roles, IMO.

Last season AVB played Verts at left back vs spam and other long ball teams maybe a option but with kaboul out and vlad bedding in doubt we will see this

I don't agree with this. If we want the best out of Soldado we need to play Eriksen, Holtby and Lamela in behind him as all can play the defense splitting pass he fed on during his time at Valencia
