I have to agree with AVB here. Fans can either help out and support the team or sit there and cause a negative atmosphere with groaning and complaining.

I hope the complainers take this as motivation to back the team. Sadly, if you're the type who goes to game with negative energy, you're probably going to be defensive and take AVB's comments the wrong way.

All he wants is home support. That's all he's asking for. As supporters, we can do that.

That's really not a clever statement tbf, but his decision making overall thus far hasn't been the best so....

Fans are gonna feel scapegoating is afoot by this and won't have it. Not clever.

Needs to learn how to finesse his statements more.
Needs to be more "Triffic, good good players, Sandra would have scored that"

Would help if he didn't turn one of the most exciting teams in the premiership into this uncreative dross.

I don't know if you're being serious, but regardless, that mentality is exactly the cause of the atmosphere not being enjoyable at the Lane. For players, or supporters.

I really don't think we should be Spurs fans with an asterisk. We are supporters, we should help improve the matchday experience no matter what. Not just when it suits us. Look at the Bundesliga, or Turkey and how incredible their fans are. And I bet they have more fun than we do in the stands! And ultimately isn't that what it's all about?

Thats a shameful quote from AVB in my opinion. I agree that the atmosphere in WHL is shit nowadays. But is it an excuse for the team? Arsenal has this problem and still winning. Tbh most of the stadiums in England haven't got a great atmosphere anymore.

Totally agree. I wish you could all hear the stream of Cr*p that comes from two of the biggest moaners that sit behind me. They reckon Townsend is a waste of space and he's only in the team as he has played one good game for England. They hate Dembele, Walker, Lennon and Dawson with a vengance.

AVB hears the home support at other grounds and he's quite right to say that there is a negative atmosphere.

Like others here I now hope that maybe the club can look at doing something to get a proper singing area maybe in conjunction with the 1882 people.

Totally agree with AVB, while our football isn't as attractive as it was say 2-3 years ago, the people who go to home games should be going to support the fucking team. Great example last season was the Inter Milan game, I was there and it as the game after we beat the scum and the atmosphere was fucking electric and in turn so was the performance. Support the team and the players support you by putting in a good performance, its simple really.

This does not always work.

Case in point: Newcastle, Liverpool, Rangers.

Are these not the grounds of famous atmospheres. What has gone on there in recent times?

Actually atmospheres are more provoked by a more primal force. Survival. The tension from this releases more emotion than does the flip side glory. Just human nature. Being high and mighty brings with it complacency, the land of resting on your hard earned laurels. Again the nature of the human specie. You get the odd electric atmosphere, but even Madrid vs Barca last night wasn't great from my TV.

Get terracing back and we'll see a totally different atmosphere at all grounds in England.
But we all know that'll never happen......

Well I was there when we played them last season and they didn't sing ANY songs. Literally none. I think they sang once towards the end when they pulled one back and got the sarcastic cheers.

I completely agree with him, the negativity is astounding at the lane at the moment especially today. Some awful twats sitting near me, battered, slating everything we did. It was embarrassing. The game was difficult, Hull played very well and are no pushovers, yet every time we picked a sideways pass there were groans and people screaming. I don't give a shit about entertainment, the crowd are a disgrace at the moment.

Reckon AVB needs to take a long look in the mirror if he wants to find a reason for lukewam support.

And if he looks in the mirror and then the league table he sees us with our best ever premiership start, a 1-0 win against a team which 2nd half didn't want to play and a fantastic defensive record. We aren't yet playing flowing fantastic football but I think AVB has the right to ask what else he needs for now to get the supporters supporting rather than moaning all the time.

Couldn't be more wrong.

The support was the same level of insipidness when we came 4th playing 'exciting' football under Redknapp.

Since we got into the Champions League, there's been a large number of fans who've got massively above themselves and now expect victory rather than anything else.

Totally disagree. I think its brave of him. The one thing that's certain is that the atmosphere in our next few games will be enhanced due to these quotes, so he's risked being the bad guy with the fans to get the atmosphere going thus helping the team. That's how I see it anyway.

He's not like Harry who would make excuses for the team and say things for effect. I do disagree that the fans were cause for the bad performance today however.

Difference being that although a lot of grounds suffer from no atmospheres, ours does have an atmosphere and it's a negative one. And that is detrimental to the team and the way they play. Good football comes often from taking risks - players are less likely to take risks when they are going to get moans and groans. Simple psychology.

Fuck me I wonder how we had such great support not so long ago - and we were no great shakes.

Funny now that we're a hell of a lot better, dull football or not, and we can't get behind the team when they clearly need it, hell probably even crave it.

AVB hasn't just came to this conclusion today, its been going on for months on end, frustration has got the better of him and he's come out and said so, probably in the hope that the majority of us take stock and do something about it.

He's right, that's the bottom line and personally I think he has earned the right to come out and say it. Home support is a huge part of the game, and he clearly feels its hindering us never mind helping us and he's alluded to playing away from home with more freedom etc.

Even if we are watching some dull football being played, why not get behind the team and demand they step it up. An atmosphere will lift the determination levels, these things can make a real difference.

No matter who AVB picks, in whatever system with whatever tactics and style of play, a healthy and loud atmosphere only increases the chances of us playing well and winning the game.

I just think its a cop out to say we have to see something first before we get loud and proud etc.
