The linesman does not have the benefit of looking at replays. I've seen it again on the tv and I'm not convinced by your argument anyway.

He, the linesman, had one opportunity to make the call. At the time the call was made, it was so bad I out my head in my hands. There is no way, no way, anyone who was there at the game, without the benefit of replays, could have justified that decision.
Well I'm not 100% sold on it anyway! but in real time I thought pen, then the replays i first was watching did he get the ball, when yes I was livid, but the commentators said it was a clear penalty so after listening and re watching it does appear as though Rose nudges Dzeko as he goes into the slide. Dzeko begins to fall before Rose touches the ball and the linesman clearly felt that Rose has gone through him first.

If that is what he sees (and the pundits here at least agree) then the decision is justified. I feel we are all gonna sit here and debate the fine margins of it and fair do's, it's all just opinion... Fact is we were thoroughly outclassed regardless.

I'm not disputing Man City were the better side and they could have been out of sight by the time the penalty was given. But either side of half time we settled into the game, started to gain some control over the game, started to brush off the cobwebs of the 6-0 at the etihad and weren't just rolling over.

And you are right, it is all about opinions. The ones that count are the officials and in the case of the penalty, I've seen nothing to revise my opinion at the time that it was a guess.

Kings tackle was a very similar tackle right? Only rose uses his outside leg and the player gets caught, but positionally very similar. (Everyone do their best not to shed tears watching this)

And that's exactly the point. We were thoroughly outplayed in the first half, but Man City didn't take their chances and as a result we should have been still in the game. Last season they outplayed us first half but only took one chance, we came back into it and won 3-1. As it was, this game was effectively ended by the officials.

The same lines man with 2 incredibly poor decisions. I may sound like a bad loser but I believe it's unrealistic to believe that the biggest money making league in the world is free from corruption. One vital decision can be worth £ millions...and here you had 2 game changing decisions.

It should have been a corner after Rose's superb tackle, NOT a red card... wrong calls impact on title race

By Graham Poll

PUBLISHED: 22:41 GMT, 29 January 2014 | UPDATED: 01:47 GMT, 30 January 2014

Assistant referee Scott Ledger had a major impact on the Premier League title chase last night as he made two huge wrong decisions.

Ledger signalled a penalty to Manchester City when Tottenham’s Danny Rose made a superb last-ditch tackle to deny Edin Dzeko, leaving referee Andre Marriner with no choice but to show Rose the red card for denying a clear goalscoring opportunity.

In fact, Rose had clipped the ball away from Dzeko, who then crumpled to the ground.

Sometimes playing the ball is not enough as the follow-through wipes out the opponent; that was not the case here. It should have been a corner.

In the first half Ledger also cost Tottenham a vital equaliser when he raised his flag as Michael Dawson smashed home a Christian Eriksen free-kick.

There were thoughts that Emmanuel Adebayor, who was in an offside position as the ball was crossed, might have been given offside but Ledger was alleged to have confirmed that it was Dawson for whom he flagged.

Appalling decision against Rose. Terrifically timed tackle given as a penalty and red card.

If you were a car dealer and a Premiership referee walked in, you'd shout for joy. Anyone who'd buy that City penalty would buy anything,

LOL! What a brilliant quote from Hugh! Although it would have been better if he'd said "If you were a car dealer and Andre Mariner and Scott Ledger walked in." It's a bit much to apply it to all refs.

Graham Poll showing no faith in his old job! He was alleged to have confirmed. Alleged. Someone mentioned in another thread that BT Sport asked the linesman at half time about who he ruled as offside and then the audience was told and this must have been where the alleged confirmation must have come from. But seriously, officials talk to broadcasters now? Come on! I tell you what, Poll is a true second rate journo now isn't he! You wouldn't think he is an ex ref.

No but it changed the game from being in the balance with a chance to get something into a non event the tackle was excellent and if King or Sandro had made we would be unified in condemnation instead of digging each other out on some of the other posts on here. Great tackle terrible decision.

Whether it's one Manchester club or the other, they always have a twelfth man. Anyway let us not dwell on a bad result. I would hope we appeal the red card decision but other than that let's look to making things right in the next game. COYS

Really annoyed with Sherwood's reaction to it after the game. What is it about spurs managers? Every official in the game must know by now that no matter how bad you screw us over, no matter how horrendous their errors, no matter if you literally hand the game to our opponents and no matter how crucial the game, you will never take any heat from our club.

There are no consequences for screwing us over with multiple bad decisions.

If you think it hasn't crossed an officials mind when making a call against a team managed by mourinho, Fergie and wenger what kind of shit will follow then you are very naive.

No referee has ever thought "ooh, not sure about that. I'd better not give it cos, [jol, Harry! AVB, sherwood] etc will give me he'll in the press after the game."

To my surprise I've been impressed with Sherwood so far, but that was bad management last night.

Agree with OPs suggestion of corruption. Can't be naive to think that given the sheer amount of money involved in the league, and what's invested into certain teams, that some doesn't in some way sway officials to favour the rich. Happens throughout history, the rich buying their way out of trouble - it happens here. It might be subtle (read Poll's biog on the Dark Arts of the game) but it surely happens. It's not a sport anymore, it's a marketing tool.

Its probably because Tottenham are so used to it, no point arguing with it anymore, plus media despises Tottenham and would turn it into a shit storm

Don't be ridiculous. We were outplayed. Once again capitulating when a decision does not go our way.

You lot wouldn't be out of place on RAWK.

so what? they out played us for 30 mins..... Palace did it to us for 45....... the officials killed the game. City didnt have to do anything for 35 mins but pass the ball between their defenders. Im not saying we would have won but they had a negative impact on the game that ultimately gave Man City a huge advantage when they didnt deserve it.
