Alas, what choice do we have? Lamela and Townsend are out. Chadli is an option but hasn't quite settled yet.
There has to be some accountability for Lennon's displays though and whilst Chadli hasn't set the world alight in his fleeting outings, he must be thinking the only way I get to play on the right is if Lennon gets injured because regardless of the consecutive shit performances 'Azza' will put in, I'm not going to be given a chance.

Failing that, I'd play Dembele on the right which he has been accustomed to in a 4231 and Walker will supply the width - not being funny, but you look at the heat map for Lennon and he's been coming inside anyway so it's debateable whether we would play that much narrower anyway.

I'm baffled why anyone thinks Eriksen can play on the left. It completely unbalances us and as a result he is less effective. His best performance recently has been at Swansea when we played a 433 and he could dictate from the middle of the pitch. So for me, that is where he has to play - for both his own benefit and the benefit of the overall team.

I don't agree, he played there against Palace iirc and scored and did well. The benefit of having a player like Eriksen on the left is that he can drift in and out of the game without impacting on it as much. When he plays central we cannot afford for him to drift out of the game as it's such an important position. It also allows him more time to get a hold of the game and find his feet.

He really is very hot and cold at the moment so needs to be managed carefully. I think people forget this and expect him to tear the opposition up everytime he is played through the middle. He just doesn't do this presently and I think playing him on the left from time to time allows him this additional breathing space. It's a pretty well known tactic and we used it with Modric and Arsenal use it all the time for all their players and not just the ones they are integrating (although the play a more narrow system generally). Players such as Walcott, Rosicky, Wilshere, Oxlaide, Ramsey (even Carzola) have all thrived on the left or right.

Man City have also done it to good effect with players such as Nasri.

I know Lennon has been poor in the last few games...but he's likely to play and I'd still be picking him. This is a huge game and we need a balanced team and a big effort from everybody.

That may be so but the lack of information is annoying, bordering on embarrassing - especially as far as Lamela is concerned.

Personally don't see the need to tell about our injuries and recovery schedule to the public, but as for Lamela - should they tell this to the public (from COYS, taken from our match thread, posted by TheAmerican there):

He was in hospital yesterday for further scans.

They were in 3 places - groin, thigh and the 3rd I'm not aware of. "Visibly" looked ok, but having to scan 3 different areas isn't the best of news - could mean he is still a way off.

On the subject of language, it is understood his English still isn't that great, but has picked upslightly.

And the downside is that we would be defensively weak down the left. Coleman always gives us trouble from RB and Rose is pretty poor at the moment. Eriksen would compound the situation. I'd have Chadli there.

then we'd just be offensively weak instead.

I can't really be bothered to go into the complete details but that's counteracted by the formation with a covering Cm. Like I said you don't see Arsenal struggling with lack of coverage because it's a fluid system, not a rigid 4-4-2 where the defense cover on the wings falls heavily at the feet of the LW and RW. Besides Coleman is injured and may not feature fully. This notion that Chadli proves more robust cover is a fallacy too. I haven't seen too many examples of this great defensive work. In fact if you're going down that path then Lennon would be a much better option defensively.

I'd pick him to help deal with Baines. I'd prefer Lamela if it was any other game but Lennon could probably do a better job of holding his position and tracking back.
