But Dawson played the same way at the end of last season. Lets face it he on the downward slope..

The whole of the defence was awful last year, Verts was terrible, shall we sell him too, is he on a downward slope? Ade had a terrible season the season before last and a good one last season, was he on a downward slope? if so how come he did pretty well last season?
What you have to consider too is who is making who worse, Daws has always been a very good defender when he has had decent players around him,but with a constant changing partner at CB and four full backs who can't defend around him it unsurprising he might have struggled more last season

ManC did OK with and Argie and a Belgian.

You're right, and I knew someone would bring that up - but the fact remains that the most successful clubs have traditionally had a top English CB at their heart long-term. It gives the club something of an identity, someone recognisable and to an extent relatable to the fans. Kompany works because 1 - he's fucking great, 2 - he plays with his heart on his sleeve in a very 'English' style (read: physical and combative but fair) which endears him to the fans and 3 - his English is excellent, he clearly has huge passion for his club, and he's intelligent and savvy enough to be very good with the media.

Arsenal are the other obvious exception but then that club is know for bottling title challenges and having a dodgy defence (even just when people get that impression even though it's not always true).

Having said all that I don't know of an English CB who is good enough who we could actually get anyway. I was disappointed that Cahill went to Chelsea rather than us a few seasons back, he'd have been ideal with Jan I think.

Neither. But the second part of the sentence would be an apt description of some of your posts regarding Dawson/Walker/anyone else you hate for no particular reason.

I have given plenty of reasons why I've been critical of various players including these two. You are being very purile.

I'm being puerile yet you are the one that suggested that I was "a bit stupid". That makes sense.

I think good players are good players are good players. I don't believe for one second that English anything is automatically better than a foreign anything and vice versa. Every nationality produces combative CB's (Puyol, Mataratzi, Stam, Vidic e.g.) and England has produced two of the best footballing CB's I've seen in Ferdinand and King.

You didn't seem to understand the concept of a footballer not giving his services for nothing, that's pretty stupid.
You said Dawson hasn't done anything for the club. He's been here for about 9 and a half years. That's a pretty stupid statement IMO.

I never suggested that having an English CB was better, I said that it gives a more relatable identity to the team for the fans, and is often a good conduit for a manager as well when the CB knows the 'club'. I also don't think all English CB's are combative and again never said so, and specifically mentioned Ferdinand and King myself - what I said was that one of the reasons Kompany is popular is that he has some attributes of the 'traditional' English CB many fans appreciate.

It's hard work.

Or is it because he likes where he lives, his family like it and he likes his place of work??

A little nieve I think considering it has been suggested he is entitled to a testimonial next year and requested a 4 year contract at Hull... Money is obviously an issue..

He is no longer good enough to play for us, he seems a nice enough fella but should move on now for the good of the team. We need a rock in defense and he is not it. For footballing reasons he should go!!

Many people need to move familys for work, I am sure he will be well looked after.

Dude, I normally rate your opinion but this is bobo. ManUtd CBs, Rio & Vidic... Vidic was the key. It's the individual player, not the Britishness of the player. Your post is a little Daily Mail to be taken serious

Not trying to intrude on your argument but actually Utd fans rated Rio higher than Vidic and that's because be was a better defender than him.

I don't think Dawson is good enough to start for us anymore. Nor does fit the system if it's going to be anything like Pochettino has played before..

But i really don't get the abuse. He has a contract that the club should honor i he wishes to stay and fight or fill in when needed. The club was happy to offer it?
He's paid a handsom wage and goes to work at the best facilities in the country... Why would he want to swap that for a lesser job? How many of you would swap a penthouse office for a windowless office in the basement ? Bit harsh on hull i know but dawson is happy where he is and doesn't want to move unless he is offered a deal that makes up for what he would leave behind.
It's not as if he is 25 and needs to move to push himself and make the squad for the WC in russia in 4yrs time...
Ask yourself why Vorm would want to join us and you may have part of the answer why Dawson isn't keen on leaving.
It isn't Dawsons job to raise funds for transfers and certainly not his obligation to leave just because the club has received and accepted an offer.

That's ok mate. Personally I think Rio was a better defender in his prime than Vidic, and the Britishness aspect was about having a 'local' link to the team and the fans, someone who the fans can relate to, who they can sing songs about being England's number 1 etc - it's that link that the English (or British) CB gives a club, IMO, at least. Certainly doesn't make them better, I just think if you can have a top English CB in your team (and I meant top, not Dawson, but Rio, Terry, King, Adams, Bruce etc), you've got an inherent advantage, especially if you're looking for a leader.
