I call typical anti-Dawson bullshit here... Most top-level players that get a testimonial donate all proceeds to a charity and I can not see Dawson being any different.

Besides all that if the club really wanted Daws gone and the only reason he wanted to stay was to get the money from his testimonial then it wouldn't take the brightest of sparks to work an agreement that he gets loaned for half a year to complete his service and so get his testimonial then bought at the end of it. Deals are rarely all cash up front so we wouldn't be missing out on cash flow and besides the first payment could come in the form of loan fee

According to someone with contacts at the club (can't remember if it was Stobart, JJ or Gards) said Kaboul only stopped feeling "Ledley like" pain in his knee in May, so it's possible this could be the start of him regaining his strength in his knee, mobility, pace and fitness.

That doesn't sound good, considering Ledley's problem was a complete lack of any remaining cartilage, which is not a problem which will ever get any better.

Ties in with the rumours that Kaboul is finished though.

Sorry, I should clarify, he doesn't have the same injury as King did, just level of pain. Also, Ledley's lack of cartilage was due to an experimental surgery he opted for that was supposed to stimulate growth of new cartilage by removing some he had, but it didn't work.

He's showing loyalty to his massive testimonial payoff. I can see why, being paid about 2-3m a year for the last 9 years has been a struggle.

Why shouldn't he want his big pay off? He has been here for nearly ten years. He always gives 100%.

Anyway the chances are he doesn't want to leave. Why would he when the chances are it will be a massive step down.

Testimonials are no longer guaranteed after 10 years of service, that's something of the past.
Darren Anderton never got his after 12 years at the club, and he was a massive star for us.
Stephen Carr another one that went past 10 years.

Anyone who advacates selling Daws brefore we get a replacement in is a lunatic, no hes not first team material any more but hes is a hell of a lot better than playing somone out of position to fill a gap. If he hadn't of been round at the start of last season, when the same people were wanting him out we would have been fucked..... and proper fucked at that. Yes I am a Daws fan but I am not saying he should be first choice, he is perfectly good enough to be a squad player IMO.

Don't get me wrong I liked Anderton but though he might have been at the club 12 years he probably only managed to play a quarter of them.
Carr wanted out and pushed for the move to the Barcodes because he wanted success :ROFLMAO:

My point stands then, testimonials are not guaranteed anymore.
They are given on individual basis.

Also do disagree with you, Anderton seem to have played more or less similiar amount of games to Dawson taking the difference in years spent at Spurs into consideration. And there's no doubt that he performed at a far higher level than Daws.

Also fits in with the fact Kaboul put a run of games together at end of season and seems to have done a full pre-season, so far.

323 appearances in all competitions in 12 years against 304 in nine, and what does a player's quality have to do with it? A testimonial is an appreciation of long service. Johnny Pratt got one, and his chief distinction was that he played in every position bar goal and was terrible in just about all of them.

If Dawson isn't, neither is Kaboul, who was far, far worse than Dawson last season.

EDIT: We had 13 clean sheets when Dawson was playing, one when Kaboul was. Kaboul's pass accuracy was 72%, Dawson's 81.5%. Dawson won 72% of tackles (not great), Kaboul 67% (pisspoor, worse than Lennon). Kaboul's pace used to cover up for his suspect positioning and somewhat dyslexic reading of the game; now it's gone, he gets found out repeatedly.

I don`t think Kaboul has been great but he has been coming back from injury and if he is injury free I would expect him to be much better next season.. so he can be cover Right Back as well as Center Back when required... One of them needs to go and in my view it should be Dawson...

Dawson played in both league defeats to West Ham 0-3 and 2-0, the 6-0 and 1-5 against Man City, the 0-5 and 4-0 against Liverpool and the 4-0 against Chelsea !! Not a good advert for keeping him..........

That`s what you would do but what would Levi do ?? Personally I am happy for him to get a testimonial but I don`t think we should let that cloud the judgement of weather he stays or goes. People say he has been great servant but in my view he has been a reasonable defender on 40K a week so the club does not owe him anything.

Poch`s high line, high press style needs quick defensive players or we will conceed plenty of goals.. we can`t carry Daws sorry...

By your logic, it's not a good advert for keeping Lloris, either. Kaboul really shone in some of those debacles, didn't he?

Rose is our only quick defender at the moment (until Walker is fully fit) and he is likely to leave.

To be fair, it was first of all a comment on the notion that Dawson deserve a testimonial more than Anderton did.
In game comparison I looked at league games, Dawson has had the benefit of playing in a stronger Spurs side that regulary qualify for Europe.

Still stand by my claim that testimonials aren't a given anymore. Yes they were meant as an appreciation of long service, and I think it's important to add that they were there to give a loyal player a financial security that is no longer needed due to the raised wage level in modern times. It's not uncommon to give away part of the money earned to charity these days as it's not so much about the money for the player.

Please don't take it as if I have anything against Dawson, I like him a lot, he's Spurs through and through in my eyes.
Just think it's time for us to move on, and I'm not sure he is deserving of a testimonial in the same matter as example King were. Do Lennon deserve one next year? Same situation with him.

This is what makes me laugh; Vertonghen's no speed demon, Vlad's quicker but hardly in the Ledley 2005 class, and do people think Kaboul's going to get his pace back?
