Hope this doesn't signal the end of our pursuit of a CB because if we're relying on Dawson when the inevitable happens with injuries then I really fear for us.

How can anyone justify keeping him after what they saw against Seattle? Completely clueless, slower than ever and painfully limited in possession.

I don't give a crap if you like him or not. He's nearly done 10 years and he's been captain. And he's always been a top bloke to supporters. So please just respect the time and effort he has given to this club. Whether you focus on his hard work or his slow pace in your black and white worlds, it shouldn't be difficult to argue his ability/trasfer status/whatever with a modicum of class and respect.

Like our entire defence, they were all poor, you don't judge a player on one game the first actual match of a series to gain fitness and shake of the rustiness played on a plastic pitch with a whole patchwork of players. We didn't have any outfield player that you could say had a good game, one or two might have had an odd moment, but it was what it effectively was an extension of a training exercise

You're right, but I was very uneasy with Daws under AVB and Tim also. He really doesn't suit this modern high line and pressing style and there is no bigger advocate of this than Pochettino.

Dawson is brave and committed and his blocks can be exceptional, but he needs to play in tactics that mask his weaknesses. He wasn't that bad most of the time under Harry because we didn't pass it from the back a great deal and the line usually dropped back so he was far less exposed to pace. In this type of system he's been poor imo and that isn't his fault. You could argue Poch should change it when Daws plays but that would be to the detriment of the whole system, it's better just to replace him although I admire the guy as a bloke and his service over the years.

Dawson is love, Dawson is life.

Not really.

Dawson is slow, unintelligent, and doesn't read the game well at all, due to the aforementioned unintelligence.

Thats not to say he's a bad player, he isnt. He's a blood and guts defender, and a brilliant captain.

However, times have changed. You cannot and will not last at a top PL club if you're a CB who cannot read a game well, and spot danger. Dawson can't do that. He was fantastic for us in a PL era that didnt require much intelligence in defence, rather a strong, no nonsense defender who would chuck himself in front of anything.

Hull is a fantastic club for him, he should take the opportunity, otherwise he'll end up at QPR with Harry.

Even I think it's probably time for Daws to go, though there's something I don't really like about not having one of our 1st choice CB's being English. Just seems a fundamental position and one which you need a King/Terry/Ferdinand type for if at all possible.

A lot's been said about showing the guy some respect - beyond that I just wish there was less outright sickening joy from some people at the prospect of him going, and correspondingly less dumbass anger at the idea of him staying. The usual suspects are embarrassing themselves in this thread with their sheer self-pleasuring ecstasy every time it looks like he's off. I expect it from one of them, who's been certified as mentally ill long ago, but some people are letting themselves down.

But Dawson played the same way at the end of last season. Lets face it he on the downward slope..

He hasn't given anything to this club, he's been paid handsomely, millions every year by this club. And this is now the second time he's refused to leave after deals have been arranged that would benefit the club, for purely selfish reasons.

Hard to respect a guy who gets paid 3m a year for not being vey good at what he's paid to do. If he was banker who was as bad at his job would you be saying the same ? Even if he wore a cheesy grin all the time and said how much he loved the bank ?

I agree he's not suited to a defensive high line, that said I don't see anyone in the team that really is, our defenders are not, our defensive mids struggle to provide the protective blanket for the defence, the central midfielders lack the passing range and quality to get the ball quickly to the attackers and the attacking players struggle to carve chances in the final third or even pass the ball well even as is without condensing play even more in their area or work by playing the high line. Add to that I don't think it works well in the PL generally anyway
I'm hoping that Poch avoids this, thinking back I can't really recall Soton playing a particularly high line, fluid maybe but not particularly high
We will see but if he wants to bring it in he's going to need a hell of a lot of changes to do so successfully.
As for Daws if ultimately that's the way Poch wants to go then we can get a more suited first choice and keep Daws around as a cover and a player of chgaracter and desire who is a great example to the others. If Poch then finds that the high line isn't working then he has a good CB option and if he does want to persist then he can then look at offloading Dawson, but maintain continuity in the shorter term
With question marks over Eunice and his ability to get back to anywhere close to his pre injury form, with Chiriches still looking a long way off being a decent PL CB and Verts still having question marks over his character we are in a difficult situation CB wise right now. Of course Eunice could all of a sudden start to recover, Vlad could suddenly start to adjust and step up and Verts may get far more focussed and show the quality he obviously has on a consistent basis, but hat's a lot of coulds. I'd hold on to Daws until we are far more certain of how we will play and if the players we have can adjust

The thing is it's only yours and some others who think he's doing such a bad job, others disagree. Besides everyone who works has to think of themselves and their families ahead of their company, if you were a banker happy where you were and where you lived and your company asked if you wanted to take a job that you might not fancy, entailing you to have to move miles away and relocate your family, find a new home, find new schools and move away from friends you had made would you say oh yeah fine as long as the company is OK?

Somehow I doubt it, good luck to Daws he's been a great servant to the club in many fans eyes, if he wants to stay and honour the contract that the club were very happy to offer him then good luck to him

I can understand Dawson not wanting to move, but I don't understand him being called loyal for it. He's looking after himself.
