have you read the days goings on?

No, not really actually. Have read the RO though and have not seen anything on there that is more than stuff that says we may or may not be interested in a few. Nothing from JJ tbh that I can see either. Have I missed something that I should know about? Cheers. (y)

we've sort of bypassed the itk part today it seems, flick through the first 4 pages or so of the Benjamin Stambouli thread

The ITKs have had a mare this summer! Another one slips through...

It wouldn't surprise me if the club is trying to really put a lid on the leaks given the Willian shit. That still chaps my ass and I'm sure it does for the guys who put in all the work to make it happen just to see it slip through our fingers.

Goat's latest is a shock. If Townsend staying is Poch's choice then fair play but surprised he'd pass up the opportunity to get MS into his starting XI.

The Goat Bleats....

Word has reached The Goat of a stalemate between ourselves and Southampton. Our source was pretty certain that nothing would happen between the clubs at all this window, although never say never, we had our chance to get Schneiderlin this week but we wouldn't part with Townsend.

Find that very odd we wouldn't part with Townsend. For me that would have been a no brainer. Odd

Well, Andros is 1 of ours.

Been with us since he was 8,

I hope he grabs this chance and starts playing with his head.

Andros is going to be under even more scrutiny now if it's cost us Schneiderlin. And I include our head coach in that...

Goat bleat.

For me personally, I must admit I'm pleased with the outcome if things come to be as they look as of tonight. I certainly acknowledge the advantage Schneiderlin brings with his knowledge of Poch's system, but if given the choice I'd have taken keeping Townsend and spending considerably less on an alternative rather than giving Saints whatever they want for Schneiderlin. For all you Rodriguez fans, this does also open up that door more in the future.

If we can find an alternative left footed winger between now & midday Monday, we may still get MS.

I personally find it hard to understand that we would not look to sell someone in & around the 1st team in exchange for someone who'd definitely start every week.. It's good business & DL is a great, businessman.

This will rear it's head again in due course (I hope!)..

This season's Moutinho Moment. So close to a quality signing.

I'm very much in the camp that we need a LWF so I hope Ali G's suspicion is correct.

If Lamela gets injured, we're left with nobody who can add some trickery and pace through the middle. Not having a player like that would massively alter our system and that's far from ideal. Same reason I believe we will get MS and move someone like Holtby on as if Capoue gets injured, we would be relying on just Bentaleb.

:joyful:

Respect!

Interesting. No Stoof stamp anywhere or official stuff so I'll leave it at that for now. Various stuff elsewhere....

As for the Goat's bleat, then maybe the above is intended to flush that out? I hope MP is dead happy with the alternative and wasn't relying on that part of the jigsaw. Did read that he was happy so just hope everyone is singing from the same sheet.

I personally think we've never been that close to signing him...

It depends really. Talk was of Southampton wanting £27m for MS (and judging by the fees they got for others I'm not surprised). They seemed to rate Townsend around £8m (if he was their player he'd be at least £15m!). A fair swap would have been Andros plus maybe £5m. Doubt that was Southampton's deal though.

Can we sell Townsend for 12m, Holtby for 8-10, BAE for 1, Lennon for 5, and use the funds on another Argentine for our guy Poch? Like uhhhh, Lavezzi or Higuain? Maybe thats why we wouldnt part with Andros for MS....At least thats what ill tell myself.

A very disappointing decision if true. Townsend has been playing professional football for 7 years now at a range of clubs. If he was going to be a top player he'd have shown more than a couple of goals and a couple of assists. Do not see him as a long term game winning player, in fact I've seen nothing this season to suggest he's improved since last. Should have gone all out for MS.

Well they obviously rated AT at 12M as that was what we rejected so no 8M. Secondly the post implies that a deal was there to be done but we didn't want to let AT go.
