P.s. Moutinho has been rubbish since we "missed out" on him, so still find it hard to be as sad about that one as some on here.

Interesting. No Stoof stamp anywhere or official stuff so I'll leave it at that for now. Various stuff elsewhere....

As for the Goat's bleat, then maybe the above is intended to flush that out? I hope MP is dead happy with the alternative and wasn't relying on that part of the jigsaw. Did read that he was happy so just hope everyone is singing from the same sheet.
At least this guy from a similar mould to the original target which is good

Apparently, Poch wants to hold on to Townsend a bit longer cos he thinks he doesn't shoot enough and wants to develop him some more

We identified Schneiderlin and Mussachio as two keys players. Yet failed to land both. Quite disappointing really. I just hope Poch gave Levy the go ahead to sign Stambouli, otherwise it's another situation where we're forcing players on the manager.

Goat's latest.

Can't see that being Pochettino's choice unfortunately. Must be Levy too scared to cash in now thinking he's going to reach world class level. Which he's currently nowhere near but I suspect that's what this is about.

Glad Townsend is going to stay, I hope with Poch's coaching, he can improve and become a little more intelligent. I think he deserves his chance, even if it's in the cup games and cameos in the league. He's still young and can improve.

Southampton probably want Townsend plus £17m cash. If they value him at £27m and they just got £45m from Pool they are not going to drop their valuation of Schneiderlin. I assume we dropped the deal because our values of the players still don't meet.

if Saints quoted north of 23 million or so I'd have told them where to go aswell.

We're being very sensible this window - much more like it. I'd take MS at a reasonable fee but our very expensive signings have never really lived up to expectations so can see the worry. I trust the new committee for once in a long time!

It wouldn't surprise me if the club is trying to really put a lid on the leaks given the Willian shit. That still chaps my ass and I'm sure it does for the guys who put in all the work to make it happen just to see it slip through our fingers.
Pretty clear this is what's going on and don't mind if it means we get what we need.

Pockyman has a plan for Townsend. He can see what all others can't. This is his special power. Pokemon power!!!

Disappointed with the Schneiderlin news but he was know where near a £20m player before Poch got hold of him. Let's see if he can do the same with this Stombouli kid. It may end up being a blessing in disguise.

99% of people here had no idea who Capoue was before we signed him. Current trends suggest he's among the favourites now. I've no idea who this new guy is but we've got a proven track record recently of picking up useful (if not always world class) 'unknowns'.

It depends really. Talk was of Southampton wanting £27m for MS (and judging by the fees they got for others I'm not surprised). They seemed to rate Townsend around £8m (if he was their player he'd be at least £15m!). A fair swap would have been Andros plus maybe £5m. Doubt that was Southampton's deal though.

This exactly for me. I reckon it was far more them not valuing Townsend to levys level and over valuing MS, I.e trying to Levy Levy. Was always destined to fail

I hope MP had a say on Townsend Morgan situation.
We really don't want tension at the club.
All the info said MP was ok with Townsend leaving and wanting MS.
For us to drop the ball and not get him, would leave MP to consider his options if another club fancied him.

The worrying thing about Townsend is the ITK we got earlier in the week,.....he doesn't follow instruction, he plays for himself. If Poch can change this we could have a player....

(I once asked a pro the difference between average PL player and average Conference player......not, skill, technique or pace. Was the ability to listen and follow instruction. Simples).

Find that very odd we wouldn't part with Townsend. For me that would have been a no brainer. Odd

Got to say, despite being a bit worried that MS would hinder the development of Bentaleb, I am also amazed we wouldn't be happy to offload a peripheral player who's unlikely to start much and who isn't the best worker off the ball as a rule (and has an issue listening to a manager's instructions) and so might not be a great fit for Pochettino's system.

Stambouli and now this. Weird night.

Apart from Poch this week saying Townsend was part of his plans?
