So, did you have a chance to watch the highlights yet?

Anyone who thinks Vertonghen didn't totally 'game' Ramirez didn't watch closely enough.

Ramirez went to ground after being sandwiched between two players, as Verts walks past he literally knees him in the ass which Ramirez reacted to by scything him down. If you don't believe me, go to Last minute goals . com check out the extended highlights and skip to 5.50.

Obviously that's all the linesman saw (the scything part) and hence why he told the ref to send him off.

In my opinion that's gamesmanship and says a lot about the plight of our team that we need to resort to such tactics.

Thanks @yankspurs SC will be grateful for the donation (y)
Watch this video. Around 55 seconds in. They were tanged up to begin with since Ramirez had his leg up and Vertonghen was trying to get by. There was no knee in the ass as Vertonghen was already slightly in front of him at the there was a hitch there before Ramirez bought him down, even though they were already tangled. Unless I missed the memo that knees are not in the back of your leg, I am not sure what your seeing there. All Verts was guilty of there was trying to push Ramirez's leg out of his way after Vertonghen had passed the ball forward.

FFS even BBC saying Verts made the most of sending off?
He was tripped, he didn't hold his face, didn't roll about he just looked bemused at getting tripped?

They just wanted to fit him into the evening's narrative of players going down for nothing.

Hacks.

Do you think a British XI would beat a world XI? What about when Stuart Downing was playing on a regular basis for England? I think the coaching side of things is improving now thankfully so it's looking slightly better for the future.

No, I don't think a British XI would beat a world XI. But I don't think that means British players are any less talented relatively than their predecessors, or any other nation, as I'm not sure any one nation would beat a World XI (maybe Germany). So again, I don't think it's that British players have become any less talented comparatively to everyone else than their predecessors, but rather that systems flipped before the players could catch up.

I agree with you though, as it seems to me to have gotten way better. It seems to me at the youth level that coaches are figuring out how to implement continental formations and tactics without abandoning British style.

Oh no doubt.

I'm a huge Lamela fan, I think his potential is so huge and his productivness this season is ok too, while his work rate/passion is also impressive.

But although I champion him, as I see such a quality player in him, I also acknowledge that h can improve his effectiveness and he has got the scope to get much better.

It's probably why i'mm so excited by him.

At thirty million he's an absolute steal. Will become a legend i am told. He was unlucky not to open his PL account on Sunday and i am sure will net one or two in the PL before seasons end. He deserves a lot more credit than people on here are giving him.

Yeah, lets all slag off Lamela, because he is not an instant fucking world classy player.

Never mind the fact that he never stops trying and never gives up, yes he is not perfect yet, but fuck me, give the guy a chance.... We gave Lennon almost 9 years...

I know, I got a better option, can we sell some of our fans for being a miserable bunch o....................

Not knocking your post one little bit because basically i agree, but wasn't Lennon twenty nine million pounds cheaper?

No need for your sarcasm, Gaz. He was pretty good today as he has been most of the season. He just tries too hard and is alttle bit too flashy but honestly if you cant see his potential, I dont know what to tell you. He's going to be an absolute star. He needs to simplify thngs a bit. Make the right passes and stop trying to do too much. Once he settles down a bit, and stops all the flashiness he will be much better.

He really does have a boat load of potential. It's not hard to see. He's improving game by game. The hate of him utterly ridiculous and unwarranted.

Then again, most people will never admit he had a good game until he scores 2 and assists another since he cost 30m. Sad part is, somewhere down the line, like in 3 or so years, Levy will sell him for 60m and we'll all be bitching about it for selling our best player again.

If Lamela is on a Bale-esque path, then he's at the point of needing a talking to about end product. I don't really see it myself, he seems too timid and a bit of a luxury player. It's like the nike slogan was made for him - just do it. He takes the inverted winger position to levels of parody, his full back will show him outside all day long, and despite some huff and puff, he doesn't really get the ball back with conviction and can be brushed aside too easily. He does show some bouts of decent possession at times, but I reckon he'll be in and out of the side.

Eriksen is frustratingly too cool and stand-offish, but he produces the goods often enough to warrant a consistent run. He's a class above the rest of them in terms of ball playing (choice of pass, weight of pass). It was a good decision to drop him deeper late in the game today.

Overall, I found that game encouraging. Given the prior one, I reckon the criticism lacks a bit of context or perspective, similar to the arsenal game a while back. Two strikers was a big boost before kick off. Even in the first half, we had a lot more purpose and urgency. We could have caved in but I thought we created much more than recent games and I'd keep Kane and Soldado together for a good few games on the trot.

It'd be great to perform well again in the Everton game and try to put a run together.

Dare I say it as I think Vlad is not good enough as a CB in the premier league but we may have luckily learnt a couple of things today.
Stick him RB
Put Dier in his preferred CB position beside Verts and Davies at LB.
Try that for a few games.
Never stick Erikson on the wing!
Good to see some proper width with Lennon back.
Chadli a must ( where was he today?)
Need a more solid midfield and stick with Kane and Soldado up front...

Let me know when you manage to form all of these into one starting XI lol

Jesus Christ.

For everyone who missed what Vertonghen did to rile Ramirez. (@michaelden @Firsttouch )

Watch the first video (extended highlights) and go to 6.20 + 6.40.

Watch it a couple of times (closely) and tell me he doesn't knee him in the ass to prompt reaction.

EDIT: @leonspurs did you actually watch the highlights i pointed out are you just fixated on disagreeing about this?

It was barely even a slight nudge. You're making it out to be that he is the huge culprit and is the one who deserved the red which is completely and utterly wrong. He didn't do anything to rile Ramirez up. A slight nudge at most when their legs were tangled is enough to warrant Ramirez taking him down? Really?

Dude, their legs weren't tangled, Verts could have walked straight past him without touching him but instead actively pushes his knee into his ass.

That's what prompted a reaction from Ramirez, so why everyone is acting like Verts is some innocent party in this just shows people see what they want to see.

It's called bias.

Thanks for the spam rating @mattstev2000 really compelling stuff

So you admit Verts, knees him in the ass, yes? Even slightly, there's contact which Verts initiated.

I didn't say anything about a red card for Vertonghen only that he gamed Ramirez into getting sent off.

Their legs weren't tangled until Vertonghen walked into him while he was lying on the ground.

So in conclusion, you admit you missed that.
