Don't see the negativity - it's been a good enough result in a game where it was never going to be a goal fest.

Sheffield Utd got to the Semi Finals on merit, beating PL teams along the way, and were FA cup semi finalists last season too, beating PL teams also.

They came to WHL to suffocate our players and block our strengths, and they did that quite well. Pretty similar tactics to what you'd expect from any PL team parking the bus, in all fairness.

If anyone thinks this should have been a stage for us to crush Sheffield United with attractive football and goals galore needs to point me to the last time a PL team actually dominated them in a game.

One step closer to Wembley - Slightly twisting the words of Oleta Adams - "I don't care how we get there, let's get there if we can"
I wasn't expecting to crush them, because as you rightly point out , it's a semi final and big moment for them. But what I was expecting was a little more intelligence from our players. There was a lack of movement, a lack key decision making, that displeases. However, if we get to the final and win it, not a single one of us will care about it.

All three head coaches have had some pretty awful results. From a points perspective, and cup record he doesn't fare too badly. And I didn't bring AVB up, somebody else did.

All three head coaches? Not been a Spurs fan for very long I guess.

I was actually a fan of AVB at the beginning, but the most damning thing I can say about that game was that it was an AVB-esque performance.

Maybe in a tough European game. Don't mean to sound patronising but I don't think you appreciate how difficult away fixtures are to lower league teams in England.

That's fair and of course I cannot fully understand it, but I "think" I understand enough that given the circumstances, I'm still content with the result.

We're very poor against smaller sides at home who leave the back four at home. Very, very poor. We've had little rest (of course, that won't change by next week), have a laughably thin AM corps at the moment, a very unbalanced CM, and only one consistent striker. I'll take it given those circumstances and roll into next week against a side that will now be forced to come at us on a significantly larger pitch.

Yeah, I'm just overreacting because of the performance I think

Just frustrating when you consider the gulf in class between the two sides
I know but we aren't the first team in the premier league to find it tough against them.

just leaving the game, felt we had no wingers playing even with Townsend. No creativity at all, very little movement! Disappointing

so who were park lane singing to? Sounded like Madonna?!

The arrogance of our fans. This is a team that have routinely beaten prem sides, for a reason. We won. Clean sheet and are in the driving seat for next week.

Our fans were just like loads of you in this thread, expecting a romp and getting frustrated when things were going against us. That's when you need your fans, to help you get through tough times not groan at misplaced passes from players trying to play at a high tempo. Our fans spend so long moaning we play too slowly and then, when we do start to play quicker and we inevitably lose the ball more which is always goingn to happen when you play at a high tempo (unless you're barca) we moan at misplaced passes. Our players can't win. Sick of it

It was pretty poor tonight but its not that big a deal IMO. We kept a clean shit and I'm confident Poch won't fuck with the line up next week, plus we'll get more space.

My concern is that in all of these games we keep trying to play the same way and continuously bang our heads against a brick wall. It would be ok/understandable if we played tippy-tappy football well and backed ourselves to cut teams apart with free flowing moves... but we don't.

For me personally, its not very good to watch. Very frustrating.

I imagine Poch would have told them to keep possession, wear them down and don't take risks.

If he did, then it worked as far as I'm concerned.

For the whole of the 38 games he was in charge in his first season?

Stop talking utter shit... just stop it.

Go back and look at my first comment "before he got the sack" clearly talking about the beginning of last season. As for his first season, how many points was Gareth Bale worth? Clearly alot considering that we struggled big time without him.

This wasn't even suppose to be the topic of conversation in my initial comment. Someone decided to nitpick at that bit and now an AVB debate is emerging in the Sheffield United thread.

I was on the shelf and didn't think the atmosphere was too toxic!

its not that bad. Spurs are still active in all competitions and have to expend their energies accordingly. OTOH, this was probably the biggest game in the careers of just about every Sheffield player. Id hoped we had the quality to brush them aside anyway, but I guess we dont.

Exactly how it appeared on my screen. We were lethargic, cumbersome, and loose with our passing and movement as is, Kane and Eriksen were both playing centrally so had no width on the left, and this consequently allowed the Blades to collapse on the right and mark Townsend tightly. Very static match from us, but decent result IMO.

Just think he had a bad day at the office today. Not on his game.
Either way, we are in 4 comps and are a bit thin on suitable AM's for the AM3, if he isn't knackered now, he will be if we don't bring in another player.

Strange reaction on here. They set up a block and were extremely professional, organised and disciplined and are no mugs.

Add that to the fact that we struggle to break teams down - at the moment - that put everyone behind the ball and it's a decent result.

They'll come at us at theirs and we'll get space to play our natural game.

Cheer up you bastards.

Happening too often for me, we are too rigid in our play/thinking and aren't able to adapt. The fortunate thing is that we have enough individual quality to scrape through these games. If I had to sum up our play, not just now but over the last couple of seasons, I'd say its far too timid and 'inefficient'.

Everyday this place gets closer and closer to surpassing RAWK in sheer stupidity.

We won. And we did so against a team that has shown it can win on the counter against teams higher in the food chain. They conceded 60% of the possession hoping they would get lucky on the counter and yet couldn't put one on target. We did so with many players that are now considered backups. And we did so with a bit of experimentation. Also, nobody got hurt that I can tell.

Sheffied United will now be forced to do what it has a hard time accomplishing against L1 defenses. It will have to score. And it will now have to break down a defense rather than making the opponent break down theirs. We are in good shape.

Yet, most here are acting like we just got relegated.

That was fun - full marks to them gave it a very good go. That was a bullet dodged as 'QPR Glenn' will testify
