Must be the most one-sided finals in memory. What's he doing? Busy counting the times his goalie picks the ball from the net.

Three poor results on the trot. The had grenade into the dressing room only gets you so far. Now we will see what he is really made off.

Fucking hell I've never known so many people infatuated with someone whether good or bad.

It's like Harry Redknapp all over again!!

I expect him to be sacked by xmas tbh. He will get Villa playing very well for maybe 4/5 games at start of season but then they will gradually fade back towards relegation. He is a decent impact manager but nothing else.

Could you please explain how you came to this conclusion?

Tbh any team would have got shitted on by arsenal bar Chelsea

As much as some people hate Tim no need to make stuff up, like our results got worse after his"novelty" wore off, come on.

It has nothing to do with the game against Arsenal and I agree most teams would have struggled with them yesterday. I just do not think Sherwood has much more to him than a 'up and at them' kind of attitude which can work well for a bit until the team start to lose games - I just do not think he has anything else to offer a team and although it can have great results to initially inspire players who have low moral, he has nothing else to give when things go wrong. I see no tactical ability in the way he sets up a team - time will tell I guess but I really do not rate him as a manager at all, the guy is a joke.

Some really balanced and constructive posts here.
Nice to see no one has let their personal dislike of the man get in the way of assessing the game o_O
Fyi, that was sarcasm

It was a final where Arsenal had 14 shots and Villa had 1 and Arsenal won 4-0. Exactly how else should the game be assessed?

Nothing to do with the fkin massive gulf in class?
We're going to see more finals like this in the future imo.
While CL teams rake in millions more than the rest the difference in quality between the top and the bottom of the league will increase so anyone lucky enough to find themselves in a final against them will more often than not get creamed no matter what manager, tactics or motivation.

And you think that was down to Sherwood?
Never said it wasn't a whitewash but blaming Sherwood for it?
Imo they could have had JC himself at the helm and would still have lost.
Not saying it would have been 4-0 but Arsenal are miles ahead of Villa.
Could he have parked the bus and lost by less? Possibly. But he'd still have lost which I think he was trying to avoid.
I'd have started Gabbie but doubt it would have made a blind farts difference.
Edit. Id have assessed it as, not surprisingly the final between the CL team that cost 100 times more than Villas relegation fodder went exactly as expected.

It's the same Sherwood we had, imo - effective against equal or lesser teams, woeful against better teams. I think there's a tactical naivety there - you can't attack at teams who are CL quality, or you'll get schooled.

Metaphorically speaking, it's like a 10 year old kid can bully the kids in his year group, but try it against an older kid and you'll get your arse kicked

It became apparent to me yesterday that Tim's game plan amounts to get the ball down the wings, cross it to the big front man and score. Theirs nothing wrong with that I guess, but it's entirely one dimensional and can only go so far.

He had Ade to fill that role for us, and Benteke at villa. Now some credit needs to be given in his ability to get a striker scoring again. But in a game where the likes of mertisacker weren't going to give Benteke a sniff, sadly it just doesn't work. Villa don't have the likes of Eriksen to bail you out with goals from other areas of the field, and I worry his first proper season with them might not be a very smooth one.

Add in him trying to be all Fergie and giving is players the hairdryer treatment like he did at Spurs, I fear it'll just alienate half the squad like it did to ours.

You should only have praise for Tim Sherwood, our greatest ever manager who we should all be grateful for having graced our dugout with his presence. Obviously every time he loses a game it is someone else's fault, because Tim is faultless and perfect. So don't try and use logical assessments of games, like shots, or goals, because they just distort reality. Unless it's when Tim wins, in which case stats are infallible.

So basically you're saying Villa never had a hope in hell of winning? People probably told Roberto Martinez the same when Wigan played Man City in the final.

Because the top four in the Premier League never lose to teams lower in the league.
