See it somewhere the other day, iirc the loan had an obligation to buy anyway

An obligation or an option? (I don't understand why it would be an obligation, why not just buy the player outright then?)

Very different things especially as Negredo wasn't scoring a ton for Valencia.

Obligation, I assumed it was maybe to do with the new owners getting cash flow sorted or something, or to do with FFP. I'm sure gomes was the same situation

Some of you have lost the plot wanting Soldado to stay. To do what exactly?
Not necessarily wanting him to stay but acknowledging that he will be hard to move on, and if he isn't he could still do a job as third choice striker. He seems to be popular among the players, a good influence in the dressing room and we don't exactly have any youth prospects that could step up to be third choice behind Kane and a new signing.

I think it was because their new owner came in right at the end of the last summer window and the work to get a 'complete' transfer over the line at that point was too tight, so they settled on a loan with an obligation to buy

Have you seen him play?

Haha of course, but there's a big difference between doing a job as the first choice number 9 and doing a job as the 3rd in line. I just think it would be difficult to bring in two strikers to replace both him and Ade with one of them knowing they're behind both Kane and the other new signing. We also don't have a youth player that can fill this role either. Perhaps Chadli at a pinch, but unlike some I'm not convinced he would make an effective striker. Soldado's already contracted and as I've said would understand his role and is a good influence amongst the players.

It's admirable I guess, but there are a number of fans who are eternally optimistic, unwavering in their support, but easily pleased and can never accept that the club may have made a bit of a fuck-up.

We see this all the time. Paulinho will play one good pass and all of a sudden you see 'I think he's got a future with us', Lennon scores a goal out on loan and its 'why the fuck did we get rid of him!?'... These fans are still convinced that Poor Bobby will come good, especially with his loveable little face and his pro-Spurs messages on social media.
Clearly he's not going to be the 20-30 goal a striker we wished he could be. But as 3rd choice if we are not able to sell him he is OK.

He has a far better attitude than the likes of Adebayor, and does get involved in build up play. He is skilful and intelligent and doesn't have many poor games. He can certainly put a few shifts in for us next season.

That's a scandalous statement

He seems a really good pro and to get on really well with the squad. An expensive bench warmer, yes, but there's worse people to have around the training ground.

Admittedly he is poor at finishing chances, but I don't see what else he is that bad at.

That's like saying -

I know a keeper that isn't great at stopping the ball going into the net, but I don't see what else he does that's bad....

Soldado is a striker, His job is to score goals, if he isn't good at that for us ( not saying he wasn't or couldn't be for someone else) then he doesn't have a place in the team IMO.

Exactly, sell him if we can, but the likes of Adebayor, Kaboul, Capoue, etc. are the types we must get off this team under any circumstances.

Whether you're a 1st or 3rd choice number 9, your job is to score goals when you're in the team.

Although likeable, Bobby doesn't seem to be a player who will recover confidence and form playing sporadically.

I like him, but he needs to move on and play regularly in another league to have any hope.

I'll never understand it. We're now saying we should keep him because he's nice and a good friend. Let's replace him with a golden retriever then.

We'd be absolutely insane not to try and get something for him while we can. He's a goal scorer who doesn't score, there's no worse option to have as 3rd choice.

He's seemingly a great bloke, with a nice smile and great social media skills but as a footballer for Spurs he's done.
This feeling that well let's just keep him about the place is not only absurd considering the treatment of other players but so cringeworthy considering he's a multi millionaire professional sportsman.

If Valencia really enquire, I think this will be his most likely destination. Levy, get this sorted.

Didn't Soldado have a pretty bad falling out with Valencia when he left? Especially in regards to his agent.

When I read about it I thought some bridges were definitely burned there.
