McCarthy is just unfashionable IMO so some on here will complain despite not really seeing him play. I like him a lot, and his performance against United was fantastic and particularly memorable. Anyways, I take the stance that if he's what Pochettino and Mitchell want, then we should back the decision. From what I've seen on here and other sites, the statement 'we need to back Pochettino' is suddenly forgotten when we've been linked with certain players.

I doubt it will happen anyway, unless a deal can be done including Lennon to significantly reduce the price.

Its funny all the criticism is surfacing now. We've often discussed him in here and never recalled such negativity.

didnt we just talk about stats and how they dont mean anything ever?
Well it does mean something, because I have proven that he doesn't just foul, which is what you said, and he does it less often than the best DMs in the league.

Maybe Mitchell has forgotten to adjust his magic box from Southampton mode to Tottenham. McCarthy is the sort of level of player I'd have thought Southampton would be aiming to replace Schneiderlin with.
We're bigger than them, better than them and should be aiming higher than them regarding incomings.

Maybe they dont want us though

Oh, in that case, we should never have tried for Schneiderlin because he only plays for Southampton. And that Bale chap. We should never have signed him from those plebs.

JJ said we are interested in a player he previously dismissed, is that McCarthy? Or do we not know?

I agree that he is unfashionable. Personally I think he is a good player.

Seems to be a smart player, solid passer, not afraid to make a tackle and plays with a bit of fire. I don't think he is as good as MS, but i don't think he is nearly as bad as he seems to be made out to be.

What I really like about him is that, when I watched him, he seems to be a "force-multiplier" player in that when he is on the pitch (and he does have injury issues which is a major drawback) his team-mates just seem to be better for it. The players around him just look to perform better when he is on the pitch, Everton look a much better side when he is on the pitch, he seems to elevate his team-mates performance.

He may not be a superstar signing but there is something to be said for signing someone who just makes his team-mates better by playing in the same side.

So? They are not comparable as players.
I know, I was just highlighting that one game may not particularly be a great indicator of their quality.

And drew Dembele as a comparison cos there was a video of him destroying UTD all game (like your point) and I was hugely excited by him when he signed, while I do think he has some very good attributes- he didnt perform like that consistently or evolve his game to improve and has ultimately been disappointing.

Anyway, to me JM is a good but not top level player, for that reason I find it a little uninspiring-however if Poch really wants him then lets give him the tools and back him.

I was using it as an example, of course he's had more good matches.

I don't know about you, but I'm pretty sure that committing few fouls means you can tackle.

Not necessarily... especially when Everton conceded more than the 2 other teams who's players made more tackles.

McCarthy is a good player but he has 2 very important things going against him:

1) excessively high fee
2) injury prone
