Makes me laugh reading people say 'Fuck Mccarthy, lets sign Rabiot'.

I reckon at least 90% of those people have never seen Rabiot play. Its just a classic example of people favouring a player over another because their foreign and play for a bigger club.

The fact that those people can form such an opinion on an overseas player yet fail to recognise how good a player Mccarthy is when he's right under their noses says an awful lot about how much they actually follow football and how much they just want to be seen as a football expert on an internet forum.

I've only seen Rabiot play once and whilst he looked promising I wouldn't like to judge him based on that. I've seen Kramer quite a few more times however and he is considerably classier than Mccarthy. Mccarthy wouldn't get into the German national team. Kramer does, and that tells you a lot of what you need to know. Water carriers are vital to all successful teams however and Mccarthy is a decent one but we still won't finish above 5th with a player like him. Kramer however could be the sort of player that could push us into top 4 territory.

yep agree bit like those 'I see something you mortals dont' who keep banging the drum about how good Lamela is because he came from Roma and is Argentinian but I wouldn't worry about it you get them in every forum and they are all entitled to an opinion....... personally I dont think McCarthy is what we need next to Bentaleb or let me put that another way Bentaleb and McCarthy are a pair that gives us solidity but next to zero creativity in the middle of the park and thats not for me.

What more creativity than Eriksen Chadli Lamela and Kane i think there is enough there with Benteleb box to box and Mccarthy holding which Mason to be fair is shocking at. All the top team have a dogs body if you have enough creativity.

And i for one dont want to concede a shit load of goals like last season so why the need for more creativity in the centre sorry i dont get

But maybe Kramer doesn't want to leave a Champions League side to move to us...

I would suggest you are massively undervaluing McCarthy. Despite not being a big name it is very probable he has a lot of the qualities Poch is looking for to enhance the overall coherence of the team dynamic. And that's all that matters. If a player slots into the team and helps the rest of its functioning parts perform better. Poch knows what he wants from individual players and he might have a different criteria to what you deem a good player.

It's not that McCarthy won't improve us. He probably will. It's just that with the top 4 spending and improving like they always do, and the gulf in funds and existing ability between us and them, we need a top player to bridge that gap. I'm more confident that Kramer could bridge that gap. McCarthy will make us a better team without being considerably more competitive. This is just my opinion, and I can't prove it other than citing stats and my opinion to show that Kramer is better than McCarthy.

Underestimating what Bentaleb can do going forward without the responsibility of being the main defensive guy imo

An experienced Premier league player approaching what should be his best years > Than a 20 year old French kid with potential and no prem experience in my book.

The failures of so many of the so called magnificent 7 should tell us that.

McCarthy over Rabiot for me. We need tried and tested not an educated punt.

Except we're supposed to have a crack scouting team now. I sort of lean McCarthy over Rabiot, but at the same time, if we've identified Rabiot, then there must be something there.

Ryan Mason went from a Swindon loanee to being capped by England in just over a year under Poch. I'm quite exited to see what he could do with McCarthy, who is clearly already a good player.

If he can get McCarthy capped by England it would indeed be quite the accomplishment :D
