Look at Everton's stats the times McCarthy was injured compared with when he was fit, Everton really suffered big time, he is their talisman

With his experience at Wigan and now Everton there is no 'will he adapt to the premiership?' like you get with any foreigner

His injuries are my only concern

He is just what we need on paper

It's worth noting that McCarthy is still just 24 years old. He's already an excellent premiership performer but there's room for him to grow as a player and develop under Pochettino who really does have a talent when it comes to players fulfilling their potential - for example none of the players who left Southampton last season were able to match the form they showed playing under Poch.

For these reasons I'm very much for McCarthy!

the 20m price tags for all the players in england is seriously confusing me on who we will be after. We wont pay that price for one, let alone two...

With the market as it is atm our £10-15m price range doesn't leave us much to aim for in terms of improving the first XI

You got some statistical evidence to back that up?

You can box clever, but just not sure how clever we will be. Have to wait and see, time still left, but ITK pointed out to no suprises, so someone like Moses seems more and more likely.

£20m for McCarthy? When Chelsea opened their bidding for the best young English defender of his generation at £20m?

Is this a sick joke?

Anyhoo my thoughts on JM have been made clear in his thread, I just hope to God the Ade ITK is true and his move is close, as him out is an absolute priority.

Shame about Lennon, but he's been a silly boy by all accounts. Ruined his relationship with the club after being here so long.

£10-15m probably there?! FFS

No wonder you guys are cynical about the transfer window when you expect an English forward that's only one year older and with twice the goals of a certain recent FOURTY-NINE MILLION £ transfer to happily waltz over to us for a 1/5 of that.

Not to mention a player of which an entire EPL side's goals depend upon (10 more than the next WBA player!!!).

Come on people read some other transfer news than just Spurs and you'll see that we've got a cracking squad for our financial situation.

I think you misunderstand me, I'm not saying we'd be getting him for £15-18m.
ITK suggested he'll cost north of £20m, I'm suggesting maybe that would be made up of £15m ish basic with the rest made up in performance related add ons, quite likely going some way over £20m if he's succesful, which I'm sure we'd then be happy to pay if he's delivering to that extent.

From our current ITK looks like the club have a great handle on project managing the construction of the stadium, but have forgotten about getting players that 61,000 people would actually pay to watch in three years time...

I can fully understand not spending circa 20m on the names mentioned, apart from Berahino at a pinch, but how have we not turned up anyone else decent if the MS money was available?

Agree

I like Poch, he is a good motivator of young players and also has a ruthless streak as Capoue/Ade/Lennon/Stambouli have found to their cost, I think he is someone who would get the best out of McCarthy

As i said the other day if his name was Jaminho who played for Corinthians like James McCarthy does for everton people would be creaming themselves with excitement

Okay it sure reads like a few people think £20M is too much for him, but I'll take your word for it (y)

I wonder if we are ever going to slurge on big players again? Levy bowed to pressure and bought Bentley and we all know what happened there. We went for Lamela and as our record signing we have to say he is yet to reach his considerable potential. Soldado has, no matter his mother attributes, failed to score goals. Paulinho.... Adebayor seemed like a good deal after his loan, but how much have we spent on wages?

If you were Levy would you willingly part with money like this considering the effective 10 years we have had from Lennon? Bale cost little, but realised potential and became a world record. Kane is our best striker since Berbatov, homegrown.

I love ITK and seeing how we can potentially fill holes in the squad and think that we will see a DM and a young pl proven striker, but I think we should be prepared to spend little for the forseeble and considering our resources compared to the big 4 think it might be for the best. Whenever we have moved away from the slow and steady policy we have tripped up. The youth system is finally bearing fruit after only give us Ledley, as has been proven, you can win with kids.

It's not how much the players worth, it's how much he's worth to your team.
Plus the availability in that pposition.
If the markets awash with really decent CM the price will be lower.
If there scarce you pay a premium.

Yeah, I remember reading that, but that alone can't be the reason Lennons bridges are burned, can it?

Maybe it built up from it. I wonder if sometimes when players are at a club for so long they feel untouchable until you get a manager who doesn't care what you did but what you are going to do.

Good point, Poch is a no nonsense manager, Ramos when he came in tried to ban players from eating tomato sauce and player power won, but Poch is not like that, nobody fucks with him, one of things i like about him

To be honest, I think we should wait until the last couple of days of the window, a special player might become available and we would have the funds to sign him providing we don't spend it now on mediocre McCarthy, barmy Berahino and bits and pieces Bolasie.

It helps when you're a former international CB who does not stand for nonsense. One minute he's telling everyone he's happy with the squad and the next he's alienating everyone you've ever loved from your lives and getting you to blame it on juju. Don't screw with Poch. :cautious:

Everyone needs to stop getting their arse in their hand over supposed valuations of players, in today's market berahino and McCarthy will be 20m plus, it is what it is, we either pay or look elsewhere fucking simple.........you'd think that some on here are paying out of their own pocket!!!

If we buy a quality player now, they are just as likely to be playing for a bigger team in 3 years anyways. Youthful potential seems the best approach, who can develop into great players for 3 years time. Although I think we Could do with adding a couple of more experienced players, but they don't have to necessarily be blockbuster signings.

These prices are happening because of the new TV deal, every team is now flush with more cash and as such they aren't desperate enough to accept a fair valuation for players. Another aspect is that idiot Chairmen will now have the cash to spend more on players and as such they will shell out 10-15mill on a player and then come a season or two later will want to make a profit. McCarthy is a prime example, they paid 14mill, they want to make a profit and because of the TV deal we haven't the financial leverage to get them down to a more reasonable price point.

We can't even hope they go down and need to sell as the parachute payments are huge, so they aren't going to be desperate to sell for a season or two - well unless they've done a QPR.
